Motorola's self-proclaimed 'Hero phone' of 2013 was finally unveiled. Motorola is taking a unique approach that seems to have Google's fingerprints all over the "new Motorola".
It is pretty clear that Google played a heavy hand in working on the Moto X with Motorola. There are certain features that just scream Google much more than Motorola. The Moto X is packed full of impressive features - everything from it being able to recognize your voice while the handset is turned off and simply saying "Ok Google" to launch Google Now and interact with the Moto X without ever touching the device. Motorola calls it the Moto X's Touchless Control feature. You can see the feature in action in a just released commercial for the Moto X below, at the end of the article.
The Moto X also is using a new 10-megapixel Clear Pixel camera that allows you to automatically launch the camera by flicking your wrist twice. Images are taken by touching anywhere on the Moto X's display. You can see that in action below in the second commercial released for the smartphone.
The most impressive feature the Moto X has is its advanced customization options, something only Motorola offers. Using Motorola's website customers can use Motomaker to order and design an AT&T Moto X (AT&T has the exclusive on this privilege). Motorola knows that smartphones are very personal devices and consumers should have the right to customize them to their liking. The company claims that there are over 2,000 customizations possible, a choice of black or white face, 16 different color options for the main body, with seven different accent colors for volume buttons, camera ring, and more. Consumers will also be able to select different wallpapers and engraving options. The smartphone will arrive within four days of designing and placing an order. Check out the video below to see Motomaker in action.
While the Moto X might not be the high-end device many were hoping for, it does bring something new to the mobile world and we will likely see other companies follow suit. Smartphones are personal devices, and its about time that consumers have an easy way to customize a smartphone to reflect their personal style instead of settling for the usual black, white, and grey color choices from other companies. Motorola is definitely on to something with the Moto X.
