Microsoft is releasing a fix for Windows 10 issues. Windows users have been experiencing problems with their operating systems lately. Numerous customers have complained about crashing applications and a lagging copy feature.
With that, Microsoft just released a cumulative update to all Windows 10 systems to address the problems.
The KB5014023 update is an optional cumulative update that will address the Direct3D problems that result in the slow copying of files and apps crashing.
This could be patched by users who have Windows 10 versions 20H2, 21H1, and 21H2. The newly released update is also a part of Microsoft's monthly "C" update for the month of May 2022.
Microsoft's Windows 10 App Crashes
Microsoft has detected that the issue is stemming from specific GPUs that have the ability to create intermittent issues with Direct3D 9 apps or the ability to cause apps to close unexpectedly. However, the release update today will address both problems that could cause Windows apps to crash.
These types of updates allow users to test bug fixes and performance improvements before their official public release on June 15. It is worth noting that this update is not for a security threat; therefore, it is only optional. Users can opt to update their system or not, but if they do so, it will improve their user experience.
According to Bleeping Computer, Microsoft also resolved an issue that might potentially slow down the process of copying files, as well as an additional problem that prevented BitLocker from encrypting data when the silent encryption option was selected.
KB5014023 fixes additional known vulnerabilities that were affecting Windows systems that were in use around the clock. These flaws led to a memory leak, which in turn caused the deduplication driver to exhaust all of the machine's physical memory, which caused it to stop responding.
After implementing the preview update that was released today, Windows computers will no longer become unresponsive when users sign out while Microsoft OneDrive is being used.
Microsoft Windows 10 Update
According to Microsoft, the quality of the service stack, which is the component that is responsible for installing Windows updates, has been improved with this version.
In order for your devices to be able to download and install Microsoft updates, you will need to make sure that you have a solid and dependable service stack. Servicing stack updates (SSU) do this.
This SSU version provides enhancements for customers of Microsoft Enterprise, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) who employ offline OS image servicing to produce or maintain OS images.
The following are included in the scope of this update to the service stack:
Windows 10, version 21H2 for versions that are based on Arm64
Windows 10, version 21H2 for versions based on x64
Windows 10, version 21H1 for versions based on Arm64
Windows 10, version 20H2 for versions based on Arm64
Windows 10, version 21H1 for versions based on x64
Windows 10 for x86-based computers, version 21H2
Windows 10 for x86-based computers, version 21H1
Version 20H2 of Windows 10 for x64-based computers
Version 20H2 of Windows 10 for x86-based computers
Microsoft also notes that the support for Windows 10, version 2004 was officially discontinued on December 14, 2021. Therefore, the company is highly recommending that users upgrade to a later version of Windows so that they can continue to receive both quality and security upgrades.
Again, as mentioned, this build is an optional update and does not contain any new features or security updates.
