Final Fantasy XVI Gameplay Trailer, Release Window Revealed

At Sony's State of Play showcase on Thursday, Square Enix debuted a new trailer and revealed a release date for Final Fantasy XVI, the next mainline Final Fantasy game. Final Fantasy XVI will now be released in summer 2023, and a new teaser reveals fresh tale elements about the world of Valisthea and the clashes that will shape its world.

Final Fantasy XVI Gameplay Trailer

"In our latest trailer, we've introduced several new Eikons, as well as provided a more detailed peek at our action-packed battle system and the freedom it gives players," Final Fantasy XVI director Hiroshi Takai said on the PlayStation blog. "As for development progress, I'm happy to announce that the game is fully playable from start to finish; though, from optimization to brush-up, there is still a mountain of challenges to tackle as we head into our final push."

Polygon reported that Square Enix's Creative Business Unit III is presently working on Final Fantasy XVI, with Naoki Yoshida (Final Fantasy XIV) serving as the game's producer. The game will be released on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC, and the latest video depicted epic battles, involving fights with mystical summons such as Shiva, Titan, and Ifrit.

The new "Dominance" teaser depicted combat that mirrored that of a fighting game. According to Yoshida, the new game will include "high-octane battles" that are exclusive to the game's Eikons, or summons.

Gamespot noted that the new Final Fantasy XVI trailer showcased off the game's real-time action combat as well as several big bosses. With high-speed mobility and damage numbers flying around, the battle seems comparable to both Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy VII Remake. Some of the boss encounters included more cinematic camera angles, as well as prominently displayed health bars for both the main character and the boss. The trailer also previews the game's more fantasy-heavy world and lays the scenario for a great war between two factions.

Eikons, this game's name for summons, also play a significant role in the continuing conflict in Valisthea. Hugo Kupka, the Permanent Economic Adviser, rose to power as the Dominant of Eikon Titan, giving him political clout as well as a considerable personal fortune. Benedikta Harman, the Dominant of Eikon Garuda, is up against him. She's on a journey to find the second Eikon of Fire when she encounters Clive Rosfield.

More Information About Final Fantasy XVI

Final Fantasy XVI was delayed in December due to concerns with COVID-19, according to the developers. Yoshida stated in April that the game was in the "final stages" of development, and a week later added that the game was in the "debugging stages" and that a new trailer will be released soon, as per the report of Polygon.

Final Fantasy XVI recounts the story of Clive Rosfield, a warrior who, based on previous trailers, appears to be destined to follow a tragic path that culminates in a conflict with his younger brother, Joshua Rosfield. Chocobos, aether, and well-known summons like Ifrit and Shiva have all been seen in trailers, as have all the other trappings we've come to associate with the Final Fantasy franchise.
