Acer Iconia W3 Windows 8 tablet price reduced to $299

Acer launched the Iconia W3 in June this year and the tablet has already received a price reduction. You can now buy the device for $299.

The Acer Iconia W3 is the first full-featured 8.1-inch tablet running on Windows 8, bringing entertainment and full PC capabilities to users. The Acer Iconia W3 also comes pre-installed with Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013.

"With the Iconia W3, Acer is giving the millions of students, consumers and professionals who create, read, work and play in the Windows environment a single-handed device that does it all," said Luca Rossi, vice president, consumer business unit, Acer Europe, upon announcing the slate. "These adventurous will enjoy the industry-leading combination of a Windows 8 tablet in a sleek and lightweight 8-inch design, giving them a new and more effective way to take their fun and productivity on the go."

Initially, the Iconia W3 had a price tag of $379 for the 32GB version. With the latest price reduction customers can save $80 on the tablet.

The Acer Iconia W3 packs impressive features and the device looks set to give competition to other tablets in its category. However, the recent price drop hints that the company is either not doing as well as it may have hoped for or Acer may be looking to launch the successor of the tablet soon (even though the slate is in its early days yet).

The Iconia W3 touts an 8.1-inch LED backlit display with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution and 186 pixels per inch (ppi). The tablet also features a 2-megapixel front-facing and rear-facing cameras.

Intel's dual-core 1.8GHz Atom Z2760 processor powers the tablet. The Iconia W3 also includes 2GB of RAM, comes in 32/64GB internal storage options and supports additional memory expansion of up to 32GB via a microSD card. The device also supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Other tablet makers may not be far behind in launching their 8-inch tablets running on Windows 8, but we don't know when these devices will be available. As such, Acer has the opportunity to attract more customers to the Iconia W3 and a price drop may enable the company to entice even more buyers.

You can buy the tablet from Microsoft, Amazon and Staples.
