You can now get Call of Duty in the digital storefront Steam after years of being exclusive on Blizzard's Battle.Net platform. This is with the upcoming release of the popular shooter franchise, Modern Warfare 2.
But although it's a great news for gamers, it's a bittersweet deal as Modern Warfare 2 on PC will now cost $70.
Activision Confirms Rumor that 'Call of Duty' is Coming Back to Valve Digital Storefront
New information the long-running FPS franchise and a flurry of videos were released today by Activision. And that's when the new, higher price of the game surfaced.
According to Kotaku, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is a sequel to Modern Warfare, a 2019 game. The game itself is a sub-franchise reboot, which started with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007). It is not a remaster. It is also not a new port of the original game.
Activision also confirmed a long-standing rumor that Call of Duty is coming back to Valve's digital storefront. This comes together with the release of the trailer that teases the single player campaign.
2017's WW2 is the last Call of Duty game that was released on Steam. From then on, all of the recent Call of Duty titles have been available only on PC via Blizzard's Battle.Net launcher. The titles, including Warzone, have skipped Steam.
The new Call of Duty game will be available on either store. You can start per-ordering it ahead of its launch on October 28.

'Call of Duty' Game is a Little Bit Pricey
The availability of the game in multiple stores is good but here's the catch, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is a bit pricey. The basic, entry-level version of the game is $70, which matches the price that Activision charges for Vanguard and Cold War, on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Although we have already seen a $70 game on PC before, this phenomenon will like irk some gamers.
It takes year of work to create games like Call of Duty, not to mention that it is very expensive to make. We can also observe that over the last decades, video game prices haven't increase.
However, with Call of Duty, there comes a lot of "in-games purchases and other microtransactions that line Activision's coffers," according to Kotaku. In addition, after a year and half of California investigation, it turned out that Activision Blizzard studios has horrific workplace condition. Thus, the timing is not ideal to start charging PC players more for a game.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will come out soon and it will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. According to Activision, the game will be free-to-play. It will also be disconnected from the previous Call of Duty battle royale game.
The game will also be a hard reset, meaning content purchased in the past games will not be carried over by the players.
