Mighty Beanz has been in the ranks of the most popular toys to give during the holiday season, and we are talking about not just in one U.S. state, as per the reports of The Courier Mail and MLive.
It was a craze in the early 2000s. The simple toy is a bean-shaped plastic shell with a ball bearing inside that, with a little assistance, would flip over.
If it is so simple, then what makes it so popular?
According to The Courier Mail, the bean-shaped characters can be raced, traded and collected. The best part is that they are affordable!
However, what sets them apart from other toys is that Mighty Beanz are collectibles.
"The secret there was that we made them collectable and gave them endearing character designs," said Manny Stul, chairman and joint owner of Moose Enterprises, which developed this popular toy.
In fact, the bean-shaped toy is so popular that it has sold over 100 million packages in just three years since its launch, as per The Age.
What Impact Did This Toy Have on the Company That Made It?
Moose Enterprises, a toy manufacturer, is one of Australia's many thousands of small enterprises that grew rapidly in the early 2000s. The business is expanding, and its chairman noted that the company is confident about the future.
Moose is a remarkable business success story, having accomplished what few Australian toy firms have: it has taken its unique and imaginative toy inventions to the rest of the globe, quadrupling its annual sales to $43 million in three years, The Age reported.
So, what led the toy company to its success?
It's none other than the Mighty Beanz, of course!
Mighty Beanz were the best-selling toy in the U.S. for five months in 2003, and as previously mentioned, the company has sold over 100 million packages in the three years since its release.
However, despite the bean-shaped toy's success, Stul feels Moose has the new products it needs to continue to expand.
Aside From Mighty Beanz, Moose Released Another Blockbuster Toy to the Market
And according to CNBC, the Trash Pack, a brand of miniature collectible characters and playsets based on items found in the trash can, is one of them.
The Trash Pack was designed by the Australian toy company behind the Mighty Beanz craze, and it has sold more than 15 million "trashies" globally since the product hit the shelves just after three months in 2011.
Trash Packs, according to Paul Solomon, director of Moose Toys, will someday be a bigger brand than Mighty Beanz, and he believes it will last longer than the Beanz brand.
However, this was not the case as the toy line was eventually discontinued.
But so are Mighty Beanz.
However, the good news is that Mighty Beanz was relaunched in 2018. Moose created a new range of Mighty Beanz, which debuted on Sept. 1, 2018, with 140 new Beanz.
