According to a report by 9to5Mac, citing Haitong Intl Tech Research analyst Jeff Pu, Apple's (rumored) AR glasses, which is expected to combine both Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies into a single device, will be announced in late 2024.

Luxshare will be one of Apple's key suppliers for devices due between late 2022 and 2024. Apple Watch Series 8, iPhone 14, and Apple's AR/VR headset are among the devices highlighted by the analyst, as per a note seen by 9to5Mac.

Specific details concerning Apple's AR glasses, such as its specs and design, are currently unknown. So far, what rumors are saying is that unlike Apple's AR/VR headset, the new AR glasses will be heavily reliant on the iPhone due to design constraints.

Rumored Release of Apple's AR/VR Headset

Pu also speculated that the tech giant will release the second version of its AR/VR headset in late 2024, about the same time as the AR glasses. On top of this, he still believes Apple will unveil its new headset in early 2023, as per the report by Digital Trends.

However, it is worth noting that as the initial iteration of the alleged specs is still a long way off from any kind of release, there's a possibility that Apple is still tweaking with the design, and the final product will look very different from what it's working with now.

Digital Trends noted that if the company believes it is not making any progress on the project, it may abandon it. And this is not impossible to happen to Apple. It was worth noting that Meta has recently announced that it will not release its first version of AR glasses to the public.

Meta Decides to Make First Version of AR Glasses Available to Developers Only

As previously reported, a person close to the matter told The Verge that the first version of Meta's full-fledged AR glasses will not be sold. Rather, it will be given to developers so that they can create software for the device and succeeding generations.

According to the source, the first version of the AR glasses, which have been in the works for three years, was always intended for developers and early adopters, but Meta's executives had yet to decide whether or not to offer them to the general public.

Citing TechCrunch, it is also reported that the launch of the second generation of AR glasses, codenamed Artemis, has been prioritized by Meta. On the other hand, Meta plans to release an entry-level, less expensive version of AR glasses called Hypernova next year that will pair with a nearby phone to display incoming texts and other notifications on a tiny heads-up display.

So, what is Meta's reason for not selling the AR glasses to the general public?

According to The Verge, the decision to not sell version one was made due to the device's high manufacturing costs and executives' perception that some criteria, such as display brightness, "are not consumer-ready."
