Elon Musk’s Boring Company Receives Approval to Expand Its Tunnels in Las Vegas

Elon Musk's Boring Company has received unanimous approval from the Las Vegas City Council for the expansion of the Vegas Loop to City Limits in downtown Las Vegas.

The proposed expansion of the tunnel system would further give the Vegas Loop's operations more areas to cover for the benefit of the public, according to Tech Times.

Shuttle attendees are already utilizing the Loop to various events at the Las Vegas Convention Center. With the expansion, the Loop will extend into downtown. This will include the Strip, the Fremont Street Experience, and the City of Las Vegas.

The Boring Company Announced the Upcoming Expansion

In a tweet, The Boring Company announced that they had already gotten the approval of the City of Las Vegas to expand the existing tunnel system of Vegas Loop.

"Thanks to the entire team at the City of Las Vegas! Great discussion today, and TBC is excited to build a safe, convenient, and awesome transportation system in the City," The Boring Company tweeted.

When finished, the Vegas Loop is supposed to range 29 miles and have 51 stops.

But currently, "only 1.7-mile tunnels are operational beneath the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC)," said The Verge.

When the public boards a Tesla Model X or Y to and from its station, the airport to the convention center will only take two minutes instead of the usual 25-minute walk, said Tech Times.

To transport passenger, the tunnel system uses human-controlled Model X and Y. This is despite Musk's previous statements that sleds will be used to carry cars through the tunnels.

Since the expansion would cover more ground, it will give more transportation options in the area with more stations below the surface.

Currently, the Vegas Loop is open for public utilization. It is uncertain, however, if once it becomes commercially used in Las Vegas The Boring Company or Elon Musk will require a fee.

Vegas Loop will Give the Residents a Faster Way to Travel

The City of Las Vegas approved the Boring Company's proposal to dig under Las Vegas Boulevard and up to Fremont Street, according to Teslarati. With the tunnel system, the visitors and residents will have a faster way to travel to various spots in the city.

With the expansion plan, the Convention Center will be connected to Resorts World. Stations of Resorts World are already in development.

Last October, the Vegas Loop was approved by Clark County Commissioners. It will connect 29 miles of tunnel and 51 stations.

Meanwhile, in December, a unanimous approval was issued to the Vegas Loop to connect with the LVCC Loop. This is also operated by the Boring Company.

According to those who presented The Boring Company's Vegas Loops expansion, every vehicle the Vegas Loop removes can free up more traffic capacity. Through this, roadways could be revised or improved.

Moreover, the Vegas Loop offers an additional form of transportation that costs the public nothing.

Model S, Model 3, and Model X vehicles will be used by Tesla in the Vegas Loop. Last year, they already started testing vehicles in the tunnel.
