Samsung is making it easy to keep credit cards and other sensitive data on your phone.
Wallet App Has Been Reintroduced by Samsung
The Verge reported that initially, there was Samsung Wallet first but it was eventually turned into Samsung Pay. But now, the tech giant is reintroducing its Wallet app, which combines a number of current Samsung services into a single app.
Samsung announced on Wednesday that its Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass apps would be combined into a single Wallet platform. This means, you won't have to switch between two apps to manage your digital identification. Instead, you can save your debit and credit card information for mobile payments, as well as your login credentials for websites and apps, in the company's new Wallet app.
Wallet App Features
According to TechCrunch, users will get instant access to their payment cards, loyalty and membership cards, and more with Samsung Wallet. It also interacts with Samsung Blockchain Wallet, allowing users to keep track of their digital asset portfolio by checking cryptocurrency prices. Samsung Wallet also contains Samsung Pass, which securely stores passwords and confirms users' identities using biometric data to log into apps and services.
Important documents, such as certification of COVID-19 vaccination, can also be stored in the mobile wallet. Samsung Wallet will enable official IDs such as mobile driver's licenses and student IDs from specified institutions later this year.
In addition, starting with select Korean Air flights, consumers can store their boarding cards in their Samsung Wallet. When users will be able to add boarding passes from other airlines is still unknown.
The Verge noted that Samsung's digital key technology was previously only available for one vehicle: the Genesis GV60. The feature is now available on some BMW cars, including the 1-8 Series, X5, X5 M, X6, X6 M, X7, Z4, iX3, iX, and i4 models built after July 2020. Genesis GV60 models launched after September 2021, G90 models launched after December 2021, and Hyundai Palisade models introduced after May 2022 are also eligible for the feature.
Who Can Access the Wallet App?
Galaxy users in the U.S., France, Germany, the U.K., Italy, and Spain can migrate to the new Samsung Wallet by using the Samsung Pay or Samsung Pass applications on their eligible Samsung Pay-enabled Galaxy phones running Android 9 Pie or later, as per TechCrunch.
How Secure Is Samsung's Wallet App?
Samsung Wallet is protected by Samsung Knox, according to the company. To protect consumers' sensitive data, safeguards include fingerprint recognition and encryption. Samsung also mentions that certain vital essential things in Samsung Wallet are stored in an isolated environment dubbed the embedded "Secure Element" to assist prevent digital and physical hacking.
Samsung Wallet's Competitors
The Apple Wallet app, which also allows users to store financial details and personal data, including vaccination records, is a key competitor of the Samsung Wallet app. The Samsung Wallet will also compete with Google Wallet, a new Android and Wear OS app that will allow users to store credit cards, loyalty cards, digital IDs, transit passes, concert tickets, vaccination cards, and other things.
