Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini dual-mode LTE passes through FCC

Samsung recently announced that it would be releasing two new Galaxy S4 variants, Galaxy S4 dual-mode LTE and Galaxy S4 Mini dual-mode LTE. The S4 Mini dual-mode LTE has just passed through the FCC.

Samsung is not shy about releasing a new smartphone and quickly following up with a similar model with more features. The company just announced that it would be releasing two new Galaxy S4 variants that would feature dual-mode LTE. The Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 Mini will both be released with this new feature. The dual-mode LTE will allow the handsets to switch between TD-LTE and FD-LTE, allowing users to have LTE coverage virtually anywhere in the world with a supporting 4G LTE network.

The Galaxy S4 Mini with dual-mode LTE has just passed through the FCC. The handset's model number is listed as GT-19197. The specs listed in the filing are nearly identical to the current Galaxy S4 Mini, with the addition of the dual-mode LTE antenna.

The Galaxy S4 Mini dual-mode LTE listing shows the handset as having a 4.3-inch, scratch-resistant 540 x 960 qHD display and running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with TouchWiz Nature UI 2.0. It will be powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, an Adreno 305 graphics processing unit (GPU), and include 1.5GB of RAM. The smartphone will also pack 8GB of internal storage for apps, images, music, and video and also feature a microSD expansion slot that will allow users to add up to 64GB of additional memory.

The handset's imaging capabilities include an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, auto focus, face detection, high dynamic range (HDR), panorama, voice activation, and able to record 1080p HD video at 30 fps. It also includes a 1.9-megapixel front facing camera. In terms of wireless capabilities, the smartphone has a dual-mode 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC. The S4 Mini also comes with a removable 1,900 mAh battery.

We recently reported that Verizon would be getting the Galaxy S4 Mini as evidenced by leaked images of the smartphone, but its unlikely that it will receive the new variant. Samsung has not announced when or where it will be releasing the new dual-mode LTE Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 Mini, so we'll have to wait for an official word from the company for now.
