Steam users, be aware: the Steam Summer Sales will happen in two days.
That's right. Steam DB recently revealed that the much-awaited digital video game sale would start on June 23 and continue for two weeks, specifically until July 7, 2022.
Steam users who wish to buy the video games on their wishlist can expect discounts as high as 90%. However, not all games will be covered by the event.
Steam Summer Sale 2022 Details
Steam DB revealed on its website that the annual Steam Summer Sales would occur on June 23 at 10 AM PDT. The website also managed to leak the event's promotional video from Valve on Steam DB's Twitter account, with the video describing the deals in the event as "on fire."
According to the leaked video, the Steam Summer sale will cover a variety of games across all genres, "from open world, to [simulations]... racing games, battle royales, and more."
The discounts apply to all games regardless if they were made by triple-A game developers like Ubisoft, CD Projekt Red or indie game developers.
The promotional video talks about "mysterious badges" that are already available to collect on Steam before the Summer Sale even begins. These badges, just like regular ones, can be created by collecting and using Steam trading cards to help users personalize their profiles.
Another "mysterious badge" of sorts that Steam users can earn during the 2022 Steam Summer Sale. However, it seems Steam users will have to undergo a "quest" to do so.
Not much information was shared in the video about this other mysterious badge, but "Chlorfax" will be revealing more about the badge during the Summer Sale itself.
New Sale Rules
Unfortunately, discounts of more than 90% and less than 10% will no longer appear in this year's Steam Summer sale. A new rule that Steam made to combat artificial price inflation on video games states that Valve will be removing discount rates of more than 90% and less than 10% to protect Steam users from anti-consumer practices.
Thankfully games that were previously discounted before June 23, such as Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and the Henry Stickmin Collection will still be sold at a discounted price during the event.
However, outside of Steam-wide seasonal events like the Summer Sales, developers are required to wait for 28 days before they can sell their video games at a discounted price again. Valve made this rule to protect Steam users from artificial price inflation, or the act of artificially raising prices so a seller can use the original price as the discounted price.
Artificial price inflation creates a false sense of urgency and is considered to be illegal in the US, according to Market Watch.
This new regulation went into effect on March 28. As such, this will be the first time this new rule will be tested during a Steam-wide seasonal sale.
