Apple iOS Beta 2 edited messages feature found a way to show changes in the text to iPhones users with older software.
Previous iterations of iOS still lack the full-blown feature, allowing iMessage users to edit and unsend their text. But that does not necessarily mean they would not see the edited version of the messages.
Apple iOS 16 Edited Messages
The latest iOS 16 remarkably brings the edit and unsend features to the iMessage platform of the iPhone maker.
Remember when iPhones lack the copy and paste features? Now the flagship mobile device of Apple is offering its user an option to fix whatever fat fingers typo error they might have left behind.
As per a news story by The Verge, Apple unveiled the new version of iOS during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2022.
And no less than the software engineering senior vice president of Apple, Craig Federighi, confirmed the edit and unsend functions on iMessage. Not to mention the all-new iOS 16 also brings an unread capability.
The Verge notes that these three new features of the messaging service of Apple are the most requested functionalities of iMessage users.
However, the Cupertino-based tech giant disclosed its limits. The edit and unsend functions could only be used 15 minutes after the text has been sent.
However, there appears to be a huge problem. Initially, the new edit feature was exclusively available for iOS 16 users.
So, according to a recent report by 9to5Mac, users of older versions could not see edits on iMessage.
As such, if an iOS 16 user edited the message sent to an iOS 15 user, there would not be any effect on the end of the latter.
iOS 16 Beta 2 Edited Messages Fix
But the Beta 2 release of iOS 16 appears to have found a way to make the new edit feature somewhat compatible with users running older software.
9to5Mac reports that early users of the iOS 16, mostly developers, started seeing a new handy update that makes the editing feature more usable.
The Beta 2 update now allows non-iOS 16 users to receive the edited version of the message as a separate text.
The second message starts with the text "Edited for," then goes on with the altered version.
How About Unsend Messages?
In the meantime, the unsend feature appears to be limited to iOS 16 users. That said, when beta users tap on the "undo send" button, it does not affect users running iOS 15 and below.
