Apple chief executive officer (CEO) Tim Cook teased the much-awaited and highly rumored augmented reality (AR) headset of the Cupertino-based tech giant in his recent interview.
Does this mean we are getting the Apple AR/VR headset anytime soon?
Apple's Tim Cook and AR
It is undoubtedly not the first the Apple CEO spoke about AR and virtual reality (VR).
In fact, as per a news story by CNET, the chief executive of the iPhone maker countlessly talks about these emerging technologies for quite some time now.
So, it should not be much of a surprise that Cook passionately spoke about AR tech in his latest interview with the state-run publication, aptly named China Daily.
According to a recent report by The Verge, the tech exec previously self-proclaimed that he is the number one fan of AR.
The news outlet also notes that Cook once claimed that the next-generation technology takes a critical role in the future of Apple.
And the recent interview of no less than Cook with China Daily also talked about AR.
The Chinese state-run outlet went on to ask the CEO about how he thinks AR tech could be more popular with consumers.
The Apple boss could not help but boast about the ARKit-enabled apps on the App Store of iPhones and iPads. Cook says it now houses roughly 14,000 apps that support augmented reality.
The Apple CEO said that he believes "that we're still in the very early innings of how this technology will evolve."
Apple AR/VR Headset
The outspokenness of Cook about AR is paired with numerous rumors and leaks, saying that Apple is working on AR/VR headset.
But years have passed, and the iPhone maker has yet to unveil it.
However, even if Apple keeps mum about a rumored AR headset, rumors about it have sprouted like mushrooms online. And these reports remarkably came from reputable sources like Bloomberg and the analyst and leaker Ming-Chi Kuo.
Bloomberg recently reported that the Apple board of directors got their hands on the rumored headset. Not to mention that its Reality OS is said to be in its final stages.
Tim Cook Teases Apple AR Headset
This time around, the Apple CEO himself teased about the AR headset.
Cook told Apple fans in his interview with China Daily to "stay tuned and you'll see what we have to offer."
