T-Mobile's CEO recently claimed that his company would start offering more of Apple's products. The CEO wouldn't go into details, but the most obvious choice would be iPads.
To call the iPhone a hit for T-Mobile would be an understatement. The carrier has seen major subscriber growth since offering the Apple smartphone, something it hasn't been used to seeing.
When speaking to AllThingsD, T-Mobile CEO John Legere reportedly made some interesting comments on its future with Apple.
"Legere said it is a good sign that the iPhone is only a portion of the company's sales growth, accounting for just 21 percent of smartphone sales last quarter," reports AllThingsD.
"I think it's a healthy percentage," Legere said.
The publication further notes that the T-Mobile CEO looks forward to doing more business with Apple, and that includes carrying more iDevices besides the popular iPhone.
Those products beyond the iPhone are very likely to be T-Mobile compatible versions of the Wi-Fi + Cellular models of both the iPad and iPad mini. The carrier is likely to receive the privilege, as Apple has made similar deals with Verizon and Sprint to carry iPads after each carrier only sold iPhones initially.
If you want to dig even deeper it could be a reference to the purported iWatch Apple is rumored to be working on. Legere was quick to point out that he believes his company's new "Uncarrier" strategy is the reason for its recent surge in new subscribers, in an apparent move to avoid giving Apple's single smartphone credit for the growth.
If Legere was hinting at Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad and iPad minis, this would allow Apple to offer all models of its tablets on the four major carriers in the U.S., and this could reverse the decrease in iPad sales the company has been seeing. Apple realized that it waited longer than usual to bring new products to market and addressed the issue in recent earnings. Apple CEO Tim Cook reassured analysts and investors that the company has many exciting products set to debut in the fall and throughout 2014.
This is a rumor for now, but it would be good news for T-Mobile customers and would include the current Uncarrier pricing.
