Tesla Lays Off 200 Autopilot Employees

As per a news story by Bloomberg, anonymous sources close to the situation disclosed that the giant (EV) maker had another job cut.

The Chief Executive Officer and founder of Tesla, Musk, has previously hinted that his company is trimming down its workforce in the next three months.

The big boss of the automaker further estimated that about 10 percent of the employees of Tesla are about to lose their jobs in the said period.

This time, the sources of Bloomberg say that the Musk-led tech giant has bid farewell to roughly 200 employees from the Autopilot team.

Some of the folks that Tesla let go of work on improving its Autopilot system. Most of them were reportedly annotation specialists.

According to a recent report by Engadget, they were responsible for labeling and evaluating the data of Tesla owners, which were primarily related to the Autopilot feature.

Bloomberg adds that the latest job cut affects both contract and salaried workers at the automaker.

Tesla California Office Closed

Apart from the massive layoff, the EV maker also closed down one of its facilities in California. The latest job cut affected the Autopilot team at the San Mateo office of Tesla in California.

The source of Bloomberg further revealed that the office in California housed approximately 350 workers. So, those who were not part of the job cut were rather transferred to a nearby Tesla facility.

It is worth noting that Tesla has yet to confirm nor deny this news. In fact, the public relations office of the EV maker has been shuttered since 2020.

That said, comments regarding the latest layoffs are highly likely to come from no less than its CEO himself. The ultra-rich billionaire has been excessively active on Twitter anyway.

Tesla and Job Cuts

The recent layoff of about 200 employees is what the Tesla founder spoke about early this June.

Musk was so vocal about the looming reduction of its workforce that he even gave his employees a heads up about it.

The tech entrepreneur shared in an internal email that he has a "super bad feeling" about the economy, Engadget notes in its report.

Thus, Tesla is trimming down its employees in the following months, and we might see more similar news such as this moving forward.
