June 29, specifically June 29, 2007, is a pretty important date for Apple because it is the day that the first iPhone hit the market for excited customers to purchase.
Here are some facts and trivia about the very first iPhone that you might not know about:
It was Named Invention of the Year
Five months after it first hit the shelves, the iPhone was named the Invention of the Year by TIME, according to an article by History.
It Ran on EDGE, Otherwise Known as 2G Wireless
Needless to say, 2G wireless was slow. In fact, an article by Business Insider describes it as "as slow as home internet was before high-speed broadband."
The Business Insider article adds that, at that time, only AT&T was the available carrier option for 2G wireless.
The Price Tag
So how much did the first ever iPhone cost anyone who wanted to get their hands on it?
Per History's article, the 4GB model was priced at $499. There was also an 8GB model, which was obviously priced more expensively at $599.

The Successor
When there is a first, there is bound to be a second, a third, and so on. Such is the case with the iPhone.
According to an article by Apple Insider, the iPhone 3G succeeded the first iPhone one year later. As its name suggests, this model had 3G functionality. The first iPhone was discontinued the same week the iPhone 3G arrived.
It was eventually declared obsolete in 2013.
Technically, Apple's iPhone was NOT the First to Bear the Name
A HuffPost article points out that 22 days before Steve Jobs announced the iPhone, Cisco launched something called an iPhone as well. Instead of a smartphone, however, it was a "VoIP device that allowed its customers to use Skype without a computer."
As Cisco had the trademark for the name, it sued Apple for calling its smartphone the iPhone. The lawsuit was eventually settled by the two parties.
What the First iPhone Lacked
The first ever iPhone lacked a number of features that you probably cannot imagine the smartphone not having today.
According to the article by Business Insider, the first iPhone launched with no App Store. Yes, you read that right. In fact, History's article states that Apple only made the App Store available in July 2008, which is a little bit over than a year since it was first sold to customers.
The first iPhone also did not let you choose a background image and you had no choice but to be stuck with a simple black background. You also could do not text message in landscape mode and the option to cut/copy and paste text was not available until three years after the smartphone's launch.
But wait! There's more!
The camera of the first iPhone could not take videos either. You could not send photos via messages either the way you can with iMessage now.
