Elon Musk’s Boring Company Reveals First Passenger Station of Vegas Loop

Last Thursday, the Boring Company and Resorts World Las Vegas officially opened the latest Vegas Loop Station at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The station, which is situated underneath Resorts World Las Vegas, is the first passenger station in the network of vehicle tunnels.

It is the first in what is expected to be 55 stops along the 29 miles of tunnels being built by Elon Musk's Boring Company.

New Vegas Loop Station Will Lessen Passengers' Travel Time

With the new passenger station, there's no need to walk from Las Vegas Convention Center to Tacos El Gordo as the trip is made more convenient by the Boring Company.

This new station of the Boring Company connects the convention center directly to a sister station that is located underneath the World Resorts property, which is on the other side of South Las Vegas Blvd, according to Engadget.

It is expected that the trip between the two stations will just take a few minutes.

Scott Sibella, president of Resorts World Las Vegas, said in a press release on Thursday: "Today marks a monumental moment not only for our resort, but for Las Vegas.

"Our passenger station will make a visit to our resort from the Las Vegas Convention Center easier than ever, and eventually connect us to key destinations throughout the city." Sibella added further.

According to The Verge, in early 2021 the Boring Company already started operating a small version of this "Teslas in Tunnels" system underneath the Las Vegas Convention Center. It involves two 0.8-mile tunnels.

A massive citywide expansion was eventually proposed. Last year, the Clark County officials approved the proposal.

To transport passengers, human-controlled Model X and Y vehicles are used in the system. This is despite "Musk's previous statements about using sleds to carry cars through the tunnels," as per The Verge report.

The Boring Company Shoulders Construction of Vegas Loop's Main Tunnel

Passengers will be able to hitch rides in Teslas to move from place to place like hotel casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, the city's new football stadium, the Las Vegas Convention Center, and McCarran International Airport using the Vegas Loop.

The Resorts World Casino station is just the first station opened. With the unanimous approval that it received, Vegas Loop project will eventually include stops at landmarks like the Stratosphere and Fremont Street.

According to Clark County, about 57,000 passengers will be able to travel through the tunnel system per hour. Moreover, building it will not be utilizing any taxpayer's money.

The Boring Company previously said that it would shoulder the cost in building the main tunnels. However, hotel casinos or other businesses that want a station will be asked to pay for the construction costs of those stations.

For over a few years now, the Boring Company has been working to build a system of tunnels underneath Las Vegas.

Initially, Musk's wanted to use sleds to shuttle cars from the surface to the tunnels and back. He also once imagined to have pods that would give preference to cyclists and pedestrians.

It seems that over that time, the tunnel-based transportation system that Musk once imagined have changed.
