Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 Won’t Likely Feature a Built-In Heart Rate, Body Temperature Sensor

Apple's AirPods Pro 2 is likely not to have as many cool features as previously rumored.

A report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman mentioned that a rumor regarding two possible features of Apple's upcoming AirPods Pro 2 would likely not happen at all.

Apple's AirPods Pro 2 and its fellow upcoming AirPods have been a target of rumor and speculation for some time; the latest mentioned that it might be more water-resistant thanks to a patent Apple filed around late June.

Apple AirPods Pro 2 Feature Rumor Details

Gurman mentioned in his article that his sources stated that Apple's upcoming AirPods Pro 2 is unlikely to have a heart rate and body temperature sensor built into them.

However, he did say that both features have been explored inside the company, meaning that Apple may have seriously considered adding them to the device.

Should Gurman's sources be correct, then both features could arrive in Apple's future AirPod Pros one day.

Gurman mentioned the unlikeliness of the AirPods Pro 2 having such features since there have been rumors circulating regarding the device having them.

MacRumors mentioned that the rumor came from 52Audio, which said that the AirPods Pro 2 would be able to measure heart rate and body temperature from within the ear thanks to a sensor built into the device.

Apple AirPods Pro 2's Other (Likely) Features

With the heart rate and body temperature sensor put aside, Apple's AirPods Pro 2 is most likely to have "self-adaptive" noise cancellation, However, 52Audio didn't expound on what "self-adaptive" noise cancellation means.

The AirPods Pro 2 may also have the same design as the current AirPods, per Tom's Guide.

A separate MacRumors report mentioned that Apple would be retaining the stem of the current AirPod design rather than shortening or completely removing it from the AirPods Pro 2's design.

52Audio added that the AirPods Pro 2 would have a USB-C port, an updated H1 chip, and Find My functionality that helps their owners find where they are, like what famous Formula One racer Sebastian Vettel experienced.

The AirPods Pro 2 will also have a new case that features twin speaker holes and a metal loop for attaching a strap, per a separate Tom's Guide article.

The new twin speaker holes aren't allegedly for tinnily listening to music and podcasts from the case itself but are instead connected to the device's "Find My" feature, wherein it will play a sound to allow the case to be easily found in the case it is misplaced.

The addition of a separate "Fund My" functionality for the AirPods Pro 2's case means that the AirPods and its case can now be found using the "Find my" app on an iOS device.

Meanwhile, the addition of a metal loop for a strap to go through was found to be a controversial addition as Apple hasn't seen the need to add one to AirPods before.

AirPods Pro 2 Availability And Price

The AirPods Pro 2 is expected to arrive on store shelves in the last quarter of 2022, per 9to5Mac. It is also rumored to have a $50 price tag.
