Online rumors have already started spreading that the South Korean tech giant Samsung may ditch the Exynos CPU for the Galaxy S23 and would once again release three devices under the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra series.

Will an Exynos Processor Run the Galaxy S23 Line? Find Out Here

For the past few years, Samsung has been utilizing its own chipsets in its Galaxy line of smartphones. Despite having had varying degrees of success with its SoC over the years, the business has used its own processors, albeit recently in a more constrained way. According to a report, Samsung may completely dispense with the Exynos processor for its upcoming Galaxy S23 line.

The South Korean tech giant will again introduce three devices in the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra series, and leaks have already begun circulating online.

Yet, according to the most recent development, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed there wouldn't be an Exynos version of the Galaxy S23 series this time around. Instead, the phone will only be powered by the Snapdragon processor, the company's flagship chip.

Kuo has suggested in a number of tweets that the upcoming Galaxy S23 series will include a Qualcomm chipset. Kuo asserts that Qualcomm's newest 5G chip, the SM8550, built using TSMC's 4nm process, will power the Galaxy S23 series.

Qualcomm has done a great job optimizing its chips for a wide range of platforms and applications. In contrast, Samsung has had trouble with this, particularly its smartphone hardware.

The analyst further discloses that Samsung may not use its own Exynos 2300 chipset for the flagship series. According to reports, the Snapdragon SM8550 will have better computing and power efficiency than the SM 8450 and SM8475.

Samsung Remains the Top Smartphone Seller for 2022's First Quarter

According to the most recent data from the International Data Corporation, Samsung continued to sell the most smartphones during the first quarter of 2022, shipping 73.6 million units during the first three months.

This translates to a 1.2 percent decrease in year-over-year shipments for the company, which has a 23.4 percent global market share.

On the other hand, from January through March, Apple sold 56.5 million iPhones, giving it an 18% share of the global smartphone market. This resulted in the U.S based tech company going on second place.

However, Apple is the only company to display year-over-year growth in smartphone shipments during the first three months of the year, outperforming Samsung with a 2.2 percent annual gain in shipments.

According to Ryan Reith, Program Vice President, Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers at IDC, Samsung and Apple outperformed the competition due to their superior supply chain management skills. Not much changed from the first quarter of 2021 to the first quarter of 2022.

Additionally, with 39.9 million phones shipped during the first quarter, IDC places Xiaomi in third place on the list. In the time period, this resulted in the company having a 12.7% market share.

At the same time, having 27.3 million and 25.4 million shipments, respectively, Oppo and Vivo placed fourth and fifth in the first quarter of 2022. Shipments for the quarter decreased for both businesses year over year, with Vivo's dropping by 28% and Oppo's declining by 27%.

The top five manufacturers in the first quarter of 2022 were the same as the previous year, with each company holding the same position.
