The picture-in-picture feature on YouTube is nothing new for Android users. In fact, they have been enjoying the said feature for quite some time now.

But the same could not be said for users of Apple mobile devices. iPhone and iPads users have been patiently waiting for the much-anticipated YouTube feature to arrive.

As per a news story by The Verge, the parent firm of YouTube, Google, revealed that its highly requested picture-in-picture mode is finally arriving on iPhones and iPads.

Google specifically says that iPhone users who have at least iOS 15 installed on their devices are getting the new YouTube mode anytime in the next few days. The same applies to iPads that run on iPadOS 15.

Essentially, it allows users to watch their favorite videos on the service while browsing another app. And to do so, the picture-in-picture mode triggers a mini window that users could move to the sides of the screen to continue their viewing session.

However, there is a limit to the new feature on the video-sharing service.

YouTube's Picture-in-Picture is on iOS, But There's a Catch

According to the latest report by Apple Insider, non-YouTube Premium users could only use the new mode for videos that are considered non-music content.

That said, if you are some sort of music junkie and love listening to your favorite tunes on YouTube, the new features require a subscription payment.

Besides the music content limit, The Verge notes that YouTube precisely says that the new mode is available in the United States.

And as such, the video service boasts that "everyone using the YouTube app on iPhone and iPad" in the US should get it, at least for what it categorizes as "non-music content."

On the other hand, YouTube users outside the US need to get their hands on its Premium subscription service to enjoy the new mode on iPhones and iPads.

It is worth noting that global users do not have the same "non-music content" limit. Instead, given that it is only available via its paid service, picture-in-picture also works on music content.

How to Enable YouTube Picture-in-Picture

The new picture-in-picture mode on YouTube is still in its rolling-out phase. Google vaguely says it should reach your Apple mobile device in the next several days.

So, it might be hard to tell when it is actually reaching your iPhone or Apple tablet. But despite that, you could manually check it out yourself.

Go to the Settings section on your YouTube app. Then, select General to toggle the Picture-in-picture option.
