Apple M2 MacBook Air Teardown by iFixit Reveals New Components

Apple's newly released M2 MacBook Air experienced a teardown by the experts at iFixit.

iFixit has published a video on YouTube that shows viewers through the process of disassembling the most recent model of the MacBook Air.

Despite the fact that the video was not a repair guide, the four-minute YouTube video showed some interesting information about the new Apple device.

Thanks to iFixit, the rundown allows buyers to have another perspective on how the new M2 MacBook Air functions based on what is on the inside.

Apple's MacBook Air Teardown

Apple's M2 MacBook Air teardown reveals a few surprises. iFixit illustrates one of the most significant alterations made to the device-the speakers-using an x-ray scan.

Previous MacBooks had the speakers located on the left and right sides of the device. They are now positioned above the keyboard, concealed between the case and the display.

Although the majority of the logic board and battery components remain concealed and protected, the bottom cover of the M2 MacBook Air has become considerably easier to remove because of the minimalist design.

The logic board is now smaller and is shielded by a metal plate. As reported by 9to5Mac, "In addition, the components are soldered to the logic board and can't be easily replaced."

During the teardown, iFixit breakdown of the parts confirmed that the single storage chip of the base model 256GB ‌M2‌ ‌MacBook Air‌ could potentially be a big problem, according to MacRumors.

In benchmark tests, the M2 MacBook Air's 256GB NAND flash chip shows SSD speeds that are 30 to 50% slower than those of the MacBook Air's two 128GB NAND chips from the previous models.

However, Apple marketed that the real-world performance of the MacBook would be even faster. Other logic board parts were discovered during the deconstruction.

They include a 64-bit 8-core M2 processor, an accelerometer, an Apple Thunderbolt 3 driver, and a USI Bluetooth and WiFi chip.

Apple M2 MacBook Air

Apple's newest MacBook Air with the M2 chip was first introduced during the WWDC event.

The design of the brand-new MacBook Air has been completely revamped and is now identical to that of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, although it is more compact.

The display has been modernized, and there is a cutout at the top for the brand-new 1080p webcam.

It now comes with Apple's M2 CPU, which is around 20 percent faster than its predecessor. The charging port on the device is now a MagSafe connector, and it also has two USB-C connectors.

The new MacBook Air is available to customers with up to 24 GB of integrated RAM and up to 2 TB. It is available in its usual silver and space gray colors.

However, this time, the 2022 MacBook Air also comes in Midnight, which is a dark blue color, and Starlight, which looks like a champagne color.

After the 2022 WWDC event, Apple did not immediately make the MacBook Air available to the public. It was speculated to be rooted in a production delay, although it was not officially confirmed.

The pre-orders started this month on July 8 and, as of July 15, they are now released to the Apple Stores. At long last, customers can now purchase it all over the world. In the United States, prices start at $1,199.
