If you're not a fan of Fitbit capacitive buttons, the upcoming models will most certainly agree with you.
Recent photo leaks of the two upcoming Fitbit smartwatches feature no capacitive buttons in sight while either staying true to the original Fitbit's design sans buttons or improving on it through thinner bezels, per 9to5Google.
The leaked photos of the two Fitbit smartwatches could be a clear indication that both devices could be hitting store shelves soon, according to The Verge.
Fitbit Sense 2 Leaked Photo Breakdown
Let's start with the upcoming Fitbit Sense 2 smartwatch. Fitbit's next premium smartwatch does not have any capacitive buttons anywhere, although it has a physical button on its left edge that looks like it can be depressed when pressed or tapped on.
Meanwhile, Fitbit has a new addition in the Sense 2's bezel that could make its users' lives easier. While the Sense 2 retains the pebble-esque rounded square, its bezel houses one more hardware than the Original Sense smartwatch. The EKG sensor, which was previously built into a metal frame around the case, is now located within the Sense 2's bezel, underneath the glass touchscreen.
This new location means Sense 2 users would have to touch the glass display to complete the EKG circuit, which is an unusual but convenient requirement compared to other EKG-capable smartwatches.
The Apple Watch and Samsung's Galaxy Watch 4, for instance, require their users to touch a finger to metal buttons to complete the said circuit.
Meanwhile, Sense 2's underside seems to have its inner cutouts and corner pins (which are used for charging) surrounded by two raised metal arcs. However, their purpose was not made clear in the leaked photos. It could be used for a new sensing capability or a set of hardware that improves an existing one.
This difference is a significant departure from the original Sense's design, which has one continuous bottom piece for its "biosensor core."
In addition to the metal arcs, the Sense 2's underside also shows markings that the device can provide ECG detection, temperature readings, GPS, and 164 feet of water resistance.
Fitbit Versa 4 Leak Breakdown
As for the Fitbit Versa 4, it seems to have the same sensor array its predecessor has. Pocket Lint also noted that the device lacks an ECG or body temperature sensor. However, in place of those two, it has a microphone, GPS capability, and 164 feet of water resistance.
Its design is also almost identical to the Sense 2, with Fitbit seemingly planning to use the same magnetic charger for both watches.
The minimal difference in the Versa 4's design and features from its predecessor suggests that instead of new hardware, the Versa 4 will instead get new software features. The answer to the question of whether that is true or not will have to wait for the device's release date.
9to5Google predicts that the two smartwatches will go head to head against Pixel Watch Google will release alongside the Pixel 7.
