LG is reportedly prepping to release a brand new tablet dubbed the G Pad, which will supposedly pack the latest Snapdragon 800 processor.
Last week reports hinted that LG had a new tablet - G Pad - in the works as the South Korean company had filed for a trademark application.
Now a new report from The Korea Herald reaffirms the existence of the impending LG tablet. The publication cites anonymous sources who are familiar with LG's plans and claims it has received relevant information on the G Pad.
A previous report from Greek website Techblog also divulged information on the upcoming tablet.
"LG intends to return to the category of Android tablets and just a few days ago it became known the name of the new device, LG G Pad . The Techblog coming today to take the first exclusive information about technical characteristics incorporating the LG G Pad," reported the website (translated).
According to Techblog, sources who have supposedly seen the G Pad claim that the device is extremely thin and lightweight. It also apparently has small bezels and is quite compact (can allegedly slip into the back pocket). The tablet will apparently not tout a stylus like the popular Samsung Galaxy Note tablet series.
The Korea Herald now reports that the upcoming LG G Pad tablet will feature a 8.3-inch display with Full HD resolution. Under the hood, it will house a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM.
The 8.3 inches size seems a bit odd, especially given the current market trend. However, a possibility exists that LG is looking to stand apart from its rivals and is therefore deploying this unusual size.
LG will reportedly enter production for its impending G Pad in September and have an initial trial run of 500 prototypes. Later on, LG is expected to manufacture between 100,000 and 200,000 units per month and the number of units produced each month will vary according to the demand.
While LG has established itself in the hotly contested smartphone space, it is yet to make a mark in the tablet arena. The company would be hoping that with the launch of the G Pad it can establish a stronghold in the tablet space as well.
LG is expected to introduce the G Pad at the IFA 2013 trade show in Berlin, which will be held in a few weeks from now.
