A resemblace to Apple Map's Flyover Feature will be provided in Google Maps, allowing users to see photorealistic aerial views in certain places.
A New Google Map Feature Will Enable an Aerial View to 100 Locations
Approximately 100 locations in Google Maps will now receive "photorealistic aerial views," the firm said on Wednesday (July 27), The Verge reports. According to Google, the views will provide an aerial perspective of landmarks in cities like Barcelona, London, New York, San Francisco, and Tokyo. This seems to have resemblance with Apple Maps' Flyover's function.
In a blog post by Google Maps director of product Amanda Leicht Moore, the aerial views are a "first step" toward rolling out the "immersive view" the firm demonstrated at Google I/O.
Google spokeswoman Genevieve Park added that immersive views would also have interior perspective and information like traffic and the weather on the map. Google said at I/O that immersive view would roll out later this year in Los Angeles, London, New York, San Francisco, and Tokyo.
Google would update Maps with a few innovative capabilities in addition to the aerial views. People may see additional information on bicycle routes, such as whether a particular road they are recommended to take is a major or minor higway, if their route includes stairs or steep hills, and whether they should expect to meet heavy traffic.
According to Moore, iOS and Android users worldwide are already seeing the new aerial views and location sharing alerts. The "coming weeks" will see the introduction of the new bicycle route data.

Google Maps' New Location-Sharing Tool Alerts You When a Friend or Family Arrives or Departs a Place
As long as they are already sharing their location with you, Google Maps' new location-sharing function helps you avoid the uncertainty of wondering when everyone will show up by alerting you when a friend or relative has arrived or departed a location.
This might be helpful if a youngster is leaving town or you want to let a buddy know that you've arrived at your meeting place.
Once the new capability is available in Google Maps on your iPhone or Android, tap your profile icon, then Location Sharing. Select the person whose location you wish to track (they must already be sharing it with you). Next, press Enter to enter a contact's address for updates. Press Save after choosing a destination, arrival/departure time, and location.
A notice that the location has been added will be sent to the person from whom you wanted location alerts. You'll be informed when that individual departs or arrives at the designated location. For instance, you'll be informed and may keep an eye out for your buddy if they've come to meet you at a campsite.
A push notice in the Maps app, an email, as well as recurrent monthly emails will all be sent to the user to remind them that they are sharing their location alerts.
