The console maker announced a third straight day of public restocks for the much coveted PlayStation 5.
On Thursday afternoon, Sony announced the third straight day of official PS5 restock for the public. This comes after two straight days of afternoon public restocks of the coveted Sony PlayStation 5.
Avid gamers can now join the queue at this link. Buyers who get through the queue can get a chance to purchase a standard Sony PlayStation 5 for $499.99 or a Digital Edition for $399.99, depending on availability. Buyers can also purchase a bundle of either two with a digital voucher for a download of Horizon Forbidden West for a small added cost of $50, which is already discounted, The Verge reported.
Demand for Sony PlayStation 5 Still High
The Sony PlayStation 5 restock was met with enthusiasm from gamer fans. The last two restocks from Sony remain open for a few hours and people have had a seamless experience in purchasing the console. Users will have to sign in with their PlayStation Network account to access the restock sale. Those who are subscribed to PlayStation Plus even get free shipping.
The Sony PlayStation 5 was first announced in 2019 as the successor of the PlayStation 4 and was released in November 2020. The video game console featured a solid-state drive capable of high-speed data streaming and an AMD GPU that supported a 4K resolution display at up to 120 frames per second. Its Tempest Engine also allowed for hardware-accelerated 3D audio effects.
The Sony PlayStation 5 restock is exciting for those who were not able to get their hands on the console when it was first released in 2020 and throughout the last year. Despite excitement tapering off since its release, some gamers have had a difficult time getting their hands on the console, as it had been out of stock on store shelves and often sold out quickly in most retail sales.
Sony's PlayStation 5 restock has now become one of the most common avenues for gamers to get their hands on the well-loved console, Comicbook reported. The only difference with the current PS5 restock is that the consoles do not sell out immediately.
After all orders for customers on the digital queue were filled, Sony still had more units of the PlayStation 5 to those who wanted them. This means customers do not feel the added pressure of competing with others to get their hands on the almost two year old PS5 console.
Best Buy Gets Limited PS5 Restock
Last week, Best Buy also got a major restock of Sony's PlayStation 5, but the limited stocks were only made available to Best Buy Totaltech members, MarketWatch reported. The Best Buy Totaltech subscription provides members with additional tech support, product protection and free delivery for an annual cost of $199.99.
Aside from having only "limited quantities" of the Sony PlayStation 5, Best Buy could not guarantee Totaltech subscribers a console during the PS5 restock, but provides members first access at special product-release drops and virtual checkout lines. Best Buy offered a similar price tag of $499 for the console.
Best Buy isn't the first retailer to place some of its most popular items behind a paywall. In fact, this has become a trend among major retailers such as Walmart and Amazon, which both have similar paywall-protected console offers in the past year.
