Gold/champagne iPhone 5S confirmed, iOS 7 might come later to the iPad

A new report confirms that Apple will offer the iPhone 5S in a gold/champagne color. The company might also delay the launch of iOS 7 for iPad.

When Apple is preparing to launch a new iPhone you can always count on being inundated with rumors of what the smartphone will include. We've been hearing for months that the iPhone 5S will retain the design of the iPhone 5, but come with upgraded internals and include a fingerprint scanner on its home button. Unlike previous iPhones, the iPhone 5S will be offered in three color choices, instead of the now standard black and white options.

A new report from AllThingsD is confirming that Apple will add a new gold/champagne color option when it unveils the iPhone 5S on September 10. Sources have told the site that the new color option is an "elegant gold tone, think champagne, not ingot." The gold iPhone 5S will feature a white face with a gold/champagne back plate and chamfered edging.

The site suggests the new color option will be an obvious differentiator between the current iPhone 5 and 5S. The iPhone 5S will join the iPhone 5C to be the first devices to ship with iOS 7 pre-installed. Speaking of iOS 7, a new report suggests that Apple might delay the launch of iOS 7 for iPad.

9To5Mac claims that it has heard rumblings that Apple might hold back the launch of iOS for iPad. The site points out that many developers testing iOS 7 builds on the iPad and iPad mini feel that the OS is "unstable and unreliable compared to the iPhone-optimized betas." The publication claims that Apple started working on iOS 7 for iPhone before it began working on iOS 7 for iPad. This was highlighted when Apple announced iOS 7 in June and made the beta available for developers to download for iPhone and iPod touch. The company told developers an iOS 7 build for iPad was not ready, but would be coming in a few weeks. The site believes that Apple might hold back the iPad version for the release of iOS 7.0.1, which would likely debut when the company releases the iPad 5 and iPad mini with Retina Display.

As with all Apple rumors, take these with a grain of salt. We'll know the full story come September 10.
