Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini coming to AT&T

In a somewhat surprising move, AT&T will apparently offer the almost year old Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini. The news comes from a leaked image of the smartphone with the carrier's logo.

Samsung can be credited with starting the trend of offering a 'mini' version of its flagship smartphone for people who would prefer to have a more pocketable smartphone. The company launched its first mini smartphone in November 2012 when it released the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini. Samsung then went on to announce the Galaxy S4 Mini in July and soon HTC announced the HTC One Mini, and Sony is now believed to be getting ready to launch its own Xperia Honami Mini. AT&T is set to get a 'mini' smartphone from Samsung and it won't be the current Galaxy S4 Mini, but the older Galaxy S3 Mini.

The always-reliable evleaks has posted an image of the Galaxy S3 Mini, complete with AT&T branding. It's unclear why the carrier is planning on launching a relatively old smartphone with the S3 Mini instead of the current Galaxy S4 Mini.

Here's a rundown of the Galaxy S3 Mini's full specs:

AT&T hasn't officially announced the smartphone but current rumors suggest the Galaxy S3 Mini will likely be announced or launched on August 23, as seen by the date on the smartphone's home screen. This is also the same day that AT&T will launch the HTC One Mini, which is priced at $99 with a new 2-year contract. If we're to go by that price model, the Galaxy S3 Mini should be offered nearly for free considering its age and specs.
