Super Mario 64 is one of the oldest and most iconic Nintendo video games of all time. It was the first Mario game to feature 3D gameplay, providing players with a new way of experiencing the world of our favorite Italian plumber.
However, thanks to the efforts of one video game developer, the bright and jolly castle of princess Peach will soon host a dark and sinister presence that you can only run from in fear.
A video game developer had recently launched a demo to a survival horror game they are developing the ground up, which is inspired by Nintendo's Super Mario 64, per Kotaku.
The demo and trailer to the game can be found and watched on YouTube.
Super Mario 64-Inspired Horror Game Details
Claudio Mondin, a video game developer and a fan of the Nintendo 64 hit game Super Mario 64, created a demo to a game they are developing that reimagines Princess Peach's castle from the game to be haunted by her ghost.
Another Princess Is In Our Castle, the game in question, takes place in a universe where Princess Peach had died five years before the game started.
The game's trailer showed that players would take control of someone impersonating as Mario as they visit Princess Peach's castle for some unknown reason. Although nothing much has changed in the castle, something doesn't feel right.
The trailer then shows "Mario" inside Peach's tower, where a doll that looks like the princess latches onto Mario like a face hugger while laughing maniacally, showing that not all is well inside the castle.
The trailer also shows that the game retains the graphics and art style of Super Mario 64, so expect a nostalgic trip to Princess Peach's castle in the first person before it gets spooky.
The premise of the game is similar to survival games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Slender: The Eight Pages, wherein players have to collect several items while avoiding Princess Peach's ghost, which features a demonic look with red eyes and a mouth filled with sharp teeth.
The game features a stamina bar that was once "Mario's" life bar in the original Super Mario 564 game that shows how far Mario can run as opposed to walking.
Running is not the only option when Princess Peach's ghost spots you. When out of the ghost's field of vision, "Mario" can hide in treasure chests to escape his otherworldly pursuer, per Nintendo Life.
A demo of the game showed that players would know if the ghost had spotted them due to the roar it emits. Failure to escape it will result in "Mario" getting swallowed in Princess Peach's demonic mouth whole, resulting in an instant game over.
How To Get The Demo
The demo is available to download for free at Claudio Mondin's website, along with embedded YouTube videos of the game's trailer and demo.
Hopefully, Nintendo will let this game slide, unlike what it did to the scans of a commercially dead 1996 Super Mario 64 guide.
