A legend in the world of gaming is coming back.
On stage at EVO 2022, video game publisher SNK announced that it has "green-lit" a new game in the Fatal Fury series, as per ComicBook. The publisher revealed that it is in the process of developing a new game in the series.
The new game in development will be the first entry in the Fatal Fury series since 1999's Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
SNK did not announce a release window or platform since the announcement only came with a short teaser trailer together with a single piece of artwork.
Rock Howard Appears to Lead the New Game Installment
SNK's announcement came as a surprise as nothing was heard from the mainline series in over 20 years. For some reasons, the video game publisher has made the decision that it's not time for the game to return with a new installment.
Currently, the new installment is only referred to as "New Fatal Fury/Garou." Based on the teaser, it appears to be a follow-up to Mark of the Wolves, as Rock Howard, the protagonist of the title, was revealed at the end of the teaser, as per IGN.
There is no gameplay featured in the teaser trailer of the upcoming game. The short clip instead showcased a new artwork featuring Rock Howard.
Three mysterious hints of what to expect in the game's story were shown in the teaser trailer. This include "The City of Legend Still Breathes", "Hungry Wolves Back on the Prowl", and "A New Destiny Hidden In Darkness," as per IGN.
Two silhouettes were also teased in the background along with Rock Howard. The silhouettes appear to be Billy Kane, a recurring character throughout the series, and Kain R. Heinlein, the final boss of Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
A message confirming that a new entry is now being developed in SNK ended that teaser trailer.
"Legends never die. After more than 20 years, Fatal Fury/Garou is coming back! Finally, the long awaited sequel has been green-lit!" SNK announced on Twitter.

SNK is Finally Granting Fan's Request of a New Game Entry
Fatal Fury is one of the biggest fighting games franchises of the 1990s. And the series was led by Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, and Joe Higashi, as per Game Rant.
The game was developed for the Neo Geo in 1991. It eventually led to 10 different sequels and spin-offs in less than a decade. The game ended with Garou: Mark of the Wolves' that was released in 1999.
As SNK dwindled and focused on King of Fighters, Fatal Fury then faded away. As a way of keeping the game alive, Garou: Mark of the Wolves has periodically been ported to other platforms over the past years.
But many fans of the game have been requesting for a fully new game entry for the longest time. While that request seemed impossible over the past two decades, SNK has finally gave in to the fans' request.
The wait of the fans is finally over as the video game publisher has announced that Fatal Fury is coming back in a new game installment.
