Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro on Wednesday.

Learn more about their features and whether these Galaxy Watches are right for you.

Galaxy Watch 5

There are two sizes of the Galaxy Watch 5: 40mm and 44mm. It uses Sapphire Crystal glass, which according to Samsung gives its screens a 60% boost in scratch resistance over its predecessors, according to the news story by Engadget.

In order to increase the surface area that would come into touch with your wrist, the company also altered the curvature of the watch case's underside. This should result in the sensors' biometric measurements being more reliable and accurate.

The three-in-one BioActive sensor, according to Samsung, has also been improved. This sensor tracks workouts, sleep, stress, and other metrics by measuring optical heart rate, electrical heart signal, and bioelectrical impedance (body composition), Ars Technica reported.

The Galaxy Watch 5 now has a new skin temperature sensor from Samsung, but it won't work until some unspecified time after launch. With the onboard bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) technology, you may also determine your body fat percentage.

Additionally, Samsung equipped the 44mm model with a 397mAh battery, and the 40mm model with a 276mAh cell.

They'll also charge more quickly; according to Samsung, a 45 percent charge may be added in just 30 minutes. Samsung even went so far as to claim that the Watch 5 can last up to 50 hours and that an eight-minute charge can provide eight hours of sleep tracking.

An Exynos W920 processor running at 1.18 GHz powers the Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro. Both devices include 16GB of internal storage and 1.5GB of RAM. Additionally, there is an LTE variant, a 5 ATM water depth rating, and IP68 dust and water resistance.

It should be noted that neither the Watch 5 nor Watch 5 Pro has a physically rotating bezel.

Watch 5 Pro

Samsung equipped the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro with a 590mAh battery. Given that the 44mm Watch 5's 44mm screen and 1.4-inch Pro edition screen are the same size and resolution, the larger battery should provide longer uptime, as per Engadget.

Additionally, the Pro's screen is protected by a 29GPa Sapphire Crystal glass, which is a tad more scratch-resistant than the Watch 5's 24GPa glass.

For the first time on the Galaxy Watch, Samsung introduced support for the GPX format for route tracking. The Samsung Health app now has a Route Workout function that lets you log the routes you take on hikes and share them with others. According to the company, you can also download maps for biking and hiking, and the system will give you turn-by-turn directions once your adventure has begun.
