[VIRAL FLASHBACK] 5 Viral Videos That Hit the Internet 10 Years Ago in 2012

Aside from photos, videos also went viral. Everyday thousands or even millions of people hit the play button of some videos in YouTube making them viral.

Even a decade ago, viral is part of the Internet world. A lot of videos were watched by millions of people repeatedly, and shared it afterwards. Let's look back at the viral videos in 2012.

1. Facebook Parenting: For the Troubled Teen

More than 40 million people watched the video clip uploaded by North Carolina dad Tommy Jordan, according to BBC.

Jordan was angered by a Facebook post by his daughter Hannah. He then recorded himself taking a pistol to his daughter's recently repaired laptop. He put several bullets in the gun, and went back to his seat to tell his daughter: "You can have a new laptop when you buy a new laptop."

According to Jordan, he had offers to create a TV show days after posting the video. Also, he was visited by local police, who told him "kudos".

2. Felix Baumgartner's Supersonic Freefall From 128K - Mission Highlights

Daredevil sky-diver Felix Baumgartner became viral in 2012 for his record-breaking sky dive from a capsule that is 39km (24 miles) above the Earth.

Baumgartner reached a top speed of Mach 1.24 (834mph/ 1,342kph) during the stunt. The stunt scored him a series of records including the highest manned balloon flight, and the highest altitude jump.

He became the first human to surpass the speed of sound unaided. As the whole stunt was shown on YouTube, Baumgartner recorded the highest number of viewers (eight million) watching a live stream of an event.

3. Psy - 'Gangnam Style'

"Gangnam Style" music video was released on July 15, 2012 through PSY's official YouTube channel.

Upon its release, the song dominated all Korean billboard charts, portal search sites and online music stores. But "Gangnam Style," started getting international attention when the music video went viral on YouTube during the third week of July that year.

Within days after its release, "Gangnam Style" music video earned the title ''viral video''. The song eventually got intensive coverage from various English-language music blogs and K-POP news sites as well as other regional Asian news sites.

4. 'Call Me Maybe' by Carly Rae Jepsen - Feat. Justin Bieber, Selena, Ashley Tisdale & MORE!

As of writing, Carly Rae's official "Call Me Maybe" video has 81 million views in YouTube. However, according to Entertainment Weekly, the music video wouldn't have earned that much views without this "home video," featuring Bieber and friends playing around as they lip-synch the song.

5. Dubstep Violin - Lindsey Stirling - Crystallize

Violinist Lindsey Stirling's music video is a "winner" with its dreamy visuals, balletic dance moves, and a thumping beat. The music is something that you want to be playing when you're making a dramatic entrance into an opera house, as per Entertainment Weekly.
