Has the Fitbit Charge 5 Sync Problem Been Resolved Already?

Fitbit Charge 5 users can now sync the device following a widespread outage.

Fitbit's support team recently announced on its official Twitter page that Fitbit Charge 5 devices can now sync to the Fitbit app as usual following a syncing issue that occurred on Aug. 16.

The outage is the latest hiccup Fitbit experienced this summer, with the first being the recall of the company's Ionic smartwatch after burning 78 users, per The Verge.

Fitbit Charge 5 Outage And Restoration Details

Fitbit Charge 5 users recently took to Reddit and Twitter voicing their inability to sync their device to the Fitbit app for some unknown reason. According to u/Outrageous_Bunch_474's post on the r/fitbit subreddit, their Fitbit Charge 5 was still unable to sync even after resetting the Bluetooth connection between their phone and the device.

Other people have commented that re-installing the Fitbit app and removing the device's registration on the app doesn't fix the syncing problem either.

In fact, many Twitter users with a Charge 5 have also commented that solutions given by Fitbit don't work either, such as the company's usual troubleshooting procedure, as Twitter user Sassie found out, and other fixes that could help people, like Twitter user Lewis McDaniels discovered.

Charge 5 users on Reddit and Twitter aren't the only ones reporting the outage. a few users of Fitbit devices other than the Charge 5 have also reported similar issues with their devices, per 9to5Google.

Meanwhile, DownDetector reported that the first report of the outage was sent at 5:55 PM and had been on the rise until Fitbit became aware of the problem.

The company had its support team inform the public at midnight of Aug. 17 that it is investigating the syncing issue experienced by Charge 5 users on Aug. 16.

Thankfully, a solution was created sometime around 4:42 AM on Aug. 17, solving the syncing problem plaguing Charge 5 users. The solution's effects could be seen in Downdetector's graph as by 4:42 AM, only three reports have been made.

Although others have been reporting sync problems past 4:42 AM, the number of reports never went back to its peak of 81.

Some users speculated that the syncing problem may have been caused by a recent firmware update for the Charge 5, per Android Central. However, without an official statement from Fitbit, this is only speculation at best.

Fitbit's Troubles

Although the problem has been resolved, this is Fitbit's latest problem in 2022. Its earliest problem occurred in March when 78 Fitbit Ionic smartwatch users have been burned by the device. This incident forced the company to recall all its Ionic smartwatches and issue refunds to affected customers.

Another problem the company faced in 2022 was an update for the Fitbit app breaking the estimated oxygen variation graph, which detects how blood oxygen levels may change during sleep. According to a Fitbit community forum post, users found that their oxygen variation graph registered a "dramatic and sudden increase" in their nightly oxygen variations, which led to widespread confusion.
