Samsung has confirmed that it will be introducing the Galaxy Note 3 phablet and its first-ever smartwatch, dubbed the Galaxy Gear, on Sept. 4 in Berlin.
The latest information comes straight from the horse's mouth i.e. Samsung Mobile's EVP Lee Young-Hee, who revealed the same to Korea Times in an interview.
"We will be introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear at our own event in Berlin on Sept. 4," said Young-Hee.
Apparently, Samsung has had the smartwatch in the works for a while now. However, the device will not have a flexible display as previously rumored. Moreover, according to Lee, the Galaxy Gear will also be powered by Android. It is not known whether the gadget will house a regular or customized version of the OS.
"The Gear won't have a flexible display. The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways. It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry," revealed Young-Hee.
Young-Hee did not divulge any other details pertaining to the impending Galaxy Gear smartwatch, which is expected to throw the gauntlet to the upcoming iWatch from Apple.
Previously, rumors have suggested that the Galaxy Gear will have the ability to surf the Internet, as well as make calls. The device is speculated to feature an AMOLED screen and pack in a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, as well as a 2-megapixel camera.
Young-Hee also let on that Samsung will unveil the successor of its best-selling Galaxy Note 2 phablet, the Galaxy Note 3, on Sept. 4 as well.
"Samsung opened a new smart mobile device category back in 2011 with the introduction of the first Galaxy Note. Since then, smartphones with large screens have been a mainstream trend. As the creator of this category, we will introduce our customers to enhanced key features on our Galaxy Note devices," Young-Hee disclosed.
With Sept. 4 just a week away, fans will not have to wait long before they can finally feast their eyes on the much-awaited Galaxy Note 3 phablet and the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
