5 Reasons Why You Should Get an Electric Car

It's 2022 and this is the future that we used to dream of. With it comes technology and modernity. Vehicles, for instance, has gone modern. A new trend nowadays is an electric vehicle.

We hate commutes. The hassle that it brings can cause stress. But the rising fuel prices for cars is also problematic, not to mention the environment impact of carbon emission.

With all these issues, electric and hybrid vehicles provide a practical solution to our commute problems. Here are the five reasons why it is a wise move to get an electric car.

1. Cuts on Fuel Costs

Over the past years, gas prices have increased. The Seattle Times reported (via AAA) that a record high for the price-per-gallon was hit in October 2021.

Driving an electric car significantly cuts fuel costs. According to a 2020 Consumer Reports' study "owning an electric vehicle will save the typical driver $6,000 to $10,000 over the life of the vehicle compared to owning a comparable gas-powered vehicle."

In terms of electric cars, a full charge with a 200-mile range would cost around $6 for the electricity. This is less than what you will spend in the same journey using a petrol or diesel car.

2. Fewer Emission

In 2019, report said that the largest amount of carbon emissions was produced by transportation.

Hybrid and electric cars produce less greenhouse gases than petrol or diesel cars. Based on the 2021 paper of the International Council on Clean Transportation, compared to gas-powered cars, "registered battery electric vehicles currently produce 60-68% less greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. during their life cycle."

Decreasing the carbon emissions by driving an electric vehicle help combats the harsh effects of climate change in the U.S. In addition, less air pollution also improves air quality.

3. Lower Repairs and Maintenance

In gas-powered engines, multiple parts can fail over the years. Meanwhile, when it comes to electric motors, it has fewer moving parts. Another advantage of electric cars is it don't require traditional vehicle maintenance such as oil changes, new spark plugs or fuel filter replacements.

Electric vehicles also use regenerative braking, meaning brake pads can last longer than a gas-powered vehicle, as per The Seattle Times.

4. Instant Torque

According to Jardine Motors, electric motors "deliver their maximum torque rating instantaneously." You don't have to wait for the motor to spool. This characteristic lets the hybrid perform like the normal cars.

5. Electric Vehicle Sales are Trending Upward

There is an increasing number of car buyers who are embracing sustainable automotive technology. The Argonne National Library data showed that sales of hybrid vehicles in the country has increased by 38.2% from October 2020 to October 2021, as per The Seattle Times.

In addition, the combined sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and battery-electric vehicles in the U.S. also increased by 45.9% during the same time frame.

It is projected that rlectric vehicles will account for 48% of new car sales in 2030, according to the data from the Research and Markets Electric Vehicle Outlook Report for 2021 and Beyond, as cited by The Seattle Times.
