Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) price is increasing starting this September, its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk reveals.
The new pricing follows the previous pronouncements of the big boss of Tesla, claiming that the price of the software is actually "ridiculously cheap."
It is to note that the Tesla FSD feature has jacked up its pricing for the second time this year or in 2022.
Tesla Full Self-Driving Price Increase
As per the latest news story by Engadget, no less than the billionaire entrepreneur Musk disclosed in his recent tweet that the FSD software is hiking its price by a few thousand dollars.
The news outlet notes that the current price of the driving assistance software of the EV maker is only to the tune of $12,000.
However, starting September 5, the FSD feature on Tesla EVs would start costing more, no thanks to the $3,000 price increase.
In turn, customers of the all-electric automaker in North America would have to pay a hefty $15,000 to get their hands on the driving assistance software beginning this Sept.
Musk goes on to clarify that the current $12,000 pricing of the FSD "will be honored for orders made before" the price hike takes effect on the first Monday of next month.
But it is worth noting that the deliveries of vehicles, which sport the current pricing, would take some time, the Tesla CEO says in the same tweet.
FSD Beta Pricing
According to a recent report by The Verge, the FSD software of the renowned EV maker initially retailed for only $5,000 when it first saw the light of day.
But when the automaker started rolling out the beta to more folks last October 2020, its pricing doubled to $10,000. And early this 2022, Tesla applied another price hike for its FSD beta feature, jacking up its cost to $12,000.
For the second time this year, the EV firm is increasing it once again to $15,000.
The Verge notes in the same report that the Tesla boss previously hinted that "the value of FSD" is highly likely going to be as hefty as $100,000 as it gains more "full self-driving capabilities."
Tesla FSD Beta 10.69
The Tesla founder highlighted that the price increase on the FSD follows the newly-released version of FSD Beta, the 10.69.
Musk touts that the new update is "a big step forward."
He also teased that the 10.69.1 release is likely coming out by the "end of [the] week," while the 10.69.2 is potentially rolling out in "a few weeks."
