Leaked image reveals Sony 'Honami' will officially be called Xperia Z1

The Sony 'Honami' has been leaking for weeks. It now appears Sony has given it an official name and it will be called the Xperia Z1.

When Sony released the Xperia Z it reminded the world of a time when the company was one of the most innovative players in the consumer electronics world. It showed signs of the old Sony, a company that offered innovative hardware on top of beautiful design, something it has struggled with in the crowded Android smartphone world. The new flagship smartphone was very well received and Sony wasn't just following other Android licensees, it started a new trend we're seeing other companies copy.

The Xperia Z was built using only high-end materials such as aluminum and glass, all in a super slim and sleek case. The company also made the Xperia Z both waterproof and dust-resistant, features we're now seeing companies such as Samsung begin to incorporate with the recently released Galaxy S4 Active. Sony was no longer following the trends of other companies, it was once again setting them.

The company is now getting ready to release the Xperia Z's successor and up until recently the smartphone has been called the 'Honami'. We knew that was a codename for the handset and new leaked images of the device have revealed the official name right on its display. The 'Honami' will officially be called the Xperia Z1.

The Sony Xperia Z1 will feature a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) TRILUMINOS display with X-Reality for mobile and run Android 4.2.2. The smartphone will be powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU).

The Xperia Z1 will also include 16GB of internal storage and 2GB of RAM. When it comes to on-board cameras, Sony will be using a 20-megapixel rear camera with ExmorRS for mobile, Sony G-Lens and BIONZ for mobile, support for 4K video recording and a 2-megapixel Exmor R front-facing camera. Wireless connectivity will include a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC. The Z1 will be waterproof and dust-resistant and will be powered by a large non-removable 3,000 mAh battery.

Sony is expected to officially announce the Xperia Z1 on September 4 at IFA in Berlin.
