Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala's 2014 Austrian thriller "Goodnight Mommy" is getting an American remake, and Amazon Prime Video just dropped the first trailer.
Prime Video is debuting the remake of "Goodnight Mommy" next month, as per Digital Trends. It stars Naomi Watts in the leading role. The trailer just showed an absolutely terrifying Watts in the upcoming film.
'Goodnight Mommy' Trailer Hints at a Terrifying Film
"Goodnight Mommy" narrates the story of two brothers, Elias and Lucas, played by real-life twins Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti, as per Variety.
The brothers are sent to stay with their mother at her remote country home. However, upon meeting their mother, they are greeted by a woman with surgical bandages on her face. Their mother claims that she had just undergone some cosmetic work.
While the reason for having surgical bandages is not too suspicious, there are some behaviors that put the boys on edge. For instance, their mother suddenly becomes a smoker. Then, she surprisingly has new draconian house rules.
The person who is supposed to be their mother also appears to be indifferent to them. This is far from what she was before. All of these little things that Elias and Lucas observed made them conclude that they with an imposter.
While the trailer doesn't show the boys' mother's face without the bandages, it does seem to support that their suspicions are correct.
Upon realizing that her sons doubt her identity, "mother" brutally punishes them until the boys acknowledge her as their mother.
