The fastest multi-gigabit US broadband connection offered by EPB in Chattanooga is reportedly four times faster than Xfinity's Gigabit Pro package and five times faster compared to AT&T's Hyper-Gig, and Ziply Fiber.
With EPB, Chattanooga Now Has The Fastest Internet Speed in the US
A 25 gigabits-per-second package is now available to home and business users from Chattanooga, Tennessee's EPB municipal utility. This offer is now considered the fastest multi-gigabit broadband service in the US.
The highly praised "hypergig" plan from AT&T and the fastest Ziply Fiber tier is five times slower than the said 25,000Mbps plan, which offers symmetrical download and upload speeds. If this internet speed plan is compared to Xfinity's Gigabit Pro package, it is clear that the latter is unquestionably four times faster.
When they hear the well-known song "Chattanooga Choo Choo" by the Glenn Miller Orchestra from 1941, some individuals could still associate it with Chattanooga. However, it has been known as "Gig City" among those working in the computer industry for more than ten years.
In 2010, it offered gigabit-speed internet for the whole community to purchase. It was also the first US city to offer a 10 GB package for homeowners in 2015.
According to EPB Board Chair Vicky Gregg in a press release, by proactively updating to the newest technology in anticipation of future needs, they are deviating from the usual approach used by internet service providers. In order to assist their whole community, Gregg said, they want to help their consumers find new prospects in technological innovation and employment development.
The typical US household has an average download speed of around 312Mbps, according to recent OpenVault statistics. For the majority, upgrading from a gigabit tier to a 25Gbps plan would be a significant improvement.
EPB notes that anybody interested in this new plan would need new devices in order to use its cutting-edge capabilities. It is feasible to use existing installed subscriber equipment, although upload and download rates would be reduced. According to the EPB website, the best tools are needed.
Starlink is Making Its Internet Service Cheaper
EPB, Chattanooga's municipal utility, now offers a 25 gigabits-per-second service. This is the fastest multi-gigabit US broadband service.
While EBP is upgrading the speed of its internet network in Chattanooga, SpaceX's Starlink has just lowered the price of its internet service to its particular consumers, according to an article by The Verge (via Business Insider).
Some Starlink customers in the UK, Mexico, Germany and the Netherlands observed a drop in the provider's monthly cost of their satellite internet service. Some users claim that new prices have fallen from €124 ($123) to €105 ($104.5) and $105 and as low as €89 ($88.5) down to €79 ($78.6).
Several US customers said that SpaceX had also informed them that their monthly charges would be cut. However, some customers claimed that this had not happened. The cost of the service is still $110 a month, according to the US Starlink order website.
According to an email addressed to a UK user that was posted in a Reddit thread, the price reduction takes into account the individual's local market conditions and aims to demonstrate parity in customer purchasing power.
Customers were emailed by the firm about price reductions on August 24. The people who were informed of the price reduction don't need to take any more action, according to emails posted on Reddit. The price had been decreased the day prior to SpaceX and T-Mobile disclosing plans to strengthen connections.
Starlink has over 400,000 global users, and the company's lower orbit network has around 2,500 satellites. Customers in remote locations and higher latitudes can access high-speed internet via the service at speeds between 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps.
