Before we talk about the upcoming Disney+ documentary, let's first talk about just what in the world the "Wagatha Christie" trial is. If you are wondering where the term came from, it is a portmanteau of the term WAG and the name Agatha Christie.

WAG stands for "Wives and Girlfriends" and is used to refer to the partners of soccer players, particularly those who play for the national team, according to a report by Engadget. Agatha Christie, on the other hand, is the author of many popular detective stories.

These names give an idea about what went on that led to the trial.

At the center of the whole issue are Coleen Rooney, the wifi of English soccer star and current DC United manager Wayne Rooney, and Rebekah Vardy, the wife of current Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.

According to a report by Us Weekly, "[Coleen] Rooney made headlines in 2019 when she claimed to have caught an acquaintance who was sharing false stories about her to the U.K. newspaper 'The Sun.'"

"She allegedly discovered the betrayal by posting fake information about herself via Instagram after blocking all but one person from viewing her Stories," the report adds. It was after she conducted her detective work of sorts that Coleen Rooney accused Rebekah Vardy of being the source of the leaks.

Things escalated when Rebekah Vardy sued Coleen Rooney for libel. However, the High Court in London eventually ruled that no defamation took place and dismissed the case.

Us Weekly said in its report that Judge Karen Steyn "told Rebekah that 'significant parts of her evidence were not credible.'"
