WhatsApp is testing better support for taking calls on smartwatches.
WhatsApp is now rolling out a current beta build that includes voice call capabilities to wearable devices running Wear OS 3.
Despite the fact that WhatsApp does not yet provide its users with a Wear OS app, the most recent beta edition of the messaging service enables users to receive and answer voice calls on Wear OS 3 smartwatches.
Smartwatches have long been a known wearable technology that allows users easy access to important messages and calls in connection to their mobile phones.
Unfortunately, this was not the case for WhatsApp and Wear OS users until this rollout came. This beta testing gives a hint to the app and also smartwatch users.
However, the Meta messaging platform does not provide a dedicated app for WhatsApp does not provide a dedicated program for Wear OS devices, but instead, this testing comes from a modification planned for its Android app.
WhatsApp Calls on Wear OS Smartwatch
The WhatsApp beta to version 2.22.19.12 allows users to now take WhatsApp voice calls on their wrist as long as they have a compatible Wear OS smartwatch.
According to Android Police, users are only able to test out the WhatsApp beta version on Wear OS 3, which includes smartwatches like the Montblanc Summit 3, Galaxy Watch 5, and Galaxy Watch 4.
The list of compatible devices might be limited. This is also due to the fact that there are not yet a lot of Wear OS 3 smartwatches available on the market.
If some of the users have more than one Wear OS 3 smartwatch, they will find themselves looking into different user interfaces for incoming calls as they do not appear the same on all devices.
On the other hand, a couple of users on the Wear OS reddit forum have claimed that some Galaxy Watch 4 owners are also able to take WhatsApp voice calls on their wrists, but only if they are using the 2.22.19.11 beta version of WhatsApp.
However for users who are using the 2.22.19.11 or newer will guarantee to be able to get notifications of incoming calls from the app on their Galaxy Watch automatically.
The user can even pick up the phone and converse with the other person without taking their hand off their wrist. According to r/WearOS, the WhatsApp logo will appear on calls that originate from the app in order to differentiate them from conventional calls.
Regardless of the circumstances, this helpful update to the Meta owned messaging app will make things simpler for those who use their smartwatches regularly.
WhatsApp Enables Sending Messages To Yourself
WhatsApp is continuing to work on some upgrades for use across multiple devices. Users are now able to utilize their own chat to send messages to themselves from a linked device, which is a brand new functionality that was just released by WhatsApp and is currently being tested.
According to WhatsApp Beta, "when you are searching for contacts within WhatsApp Desktop beta, you will be able to send messages to yourself by tapping your personal chat in the future."
When the feature is made available to the general public later, users can still be sure that the chat they sent to themselves will still appear when they attempt to log into WhatsApp from a different mobile device.
