The Emmy nominated actor took to Twitter to hint that he will reprise his MCU role in the upcoming series.
While Vincent D'Onofrio recently appeared in this year's Ethan Hawke directed limited documentary series "The Last Movie Stars," the 63 year old actor has hinted at his imminent return to a more familiar role: the MCU's Wilson Fisk, better known as Kingpin. The last time fans saw Kingpin was in Disney+'s "Hawkeye," which was released in 2021, but like many beloved characters, it appears that he is slated to return to the MCU very soon, most likely in the upcoming "Daredevil: Born Again."
During the wee hours of Friday morning, D'Onofrio took to Twitter to share a photo of a cool silver flask with the name "Fisk" on it. The photo was not accompanied by any caption, which led to fans speculating how he would return to a number of Disney+ series, including the upcoming "Echo." After all, the last time fans saw Fisk was when he was staring down the barrel of a gun being held by Maya Lopez, played by Alaqua Cox during the finale of "Hawkeye," Comicbook reported.
How Will Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin Return to the MCU?
There are two main working theories on how D'Onofrio's Kingpin will return to the MCU on Disney+. Some eagle-eyed fans noticed that the actor's Twitter post was perfectly timed when the third episode of Marvel's "She-Hulk" on Disney+ showed the arrival of the Wrecking Crew, a group of thugs armed with Asgardian weaponry seeking to get a sample of She-Hulk's blood.
The Wrecking Crew was working on behalf of a yet unnamed boss, who may be one of several already established characters such as The Leader, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, or Kingpin himself. Many fans believe it is Kingpin calling the shots here, as it was already confirmed that Daredevil himself will appear in Disney+'s "She-Hulk."
Vincent D'Onofrio to Appear in Several MCU Disney+ Shows
The long journey to D'Onofrio's return as MCU's Kingpin is coming to a head soon, after "Daredevil" was initially canceled by Netflix back in 2018. But D'Onofrio's performance was so grounded and terrifying that he earned a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting TV Actor for his portrayal of Fisk.
According to ScreenRant, it would take another few years for Marvel to come up with a sequel to the Netflix series called "Daredevil: Born Again," which is slated to run for 18 episodes and stream on Disney+. With the upcoming show slated for a 2024 release, fans are expecting D'Onofrio's Fisk to be more amazing than ever, especially after Marvel has been repeatedly criticized for creating weak, disposable villains. D'Onofrio's Fisk appears to be an outlier, as he is also set to appear in "Echo."
While waiting, "Daredevil: Born Again" fans can check out D'Onofrio as he plays the roles of John Huston and Karl Malden in "The Last Movie Stars" on HBO Max. The documentary series was created and directed by Hawke, another MCU actor who recently appeared in the critically acclaimed Disney+ series "Moon Knight" alongside Oscar Isaac.
