Volvo plug-in car sales dropped significantly in the United States last August as its overall vehicle sales massively decreased last month.
It is worth mentioning that the dismal numbers of Volvo Car sales in the US follow its massive decrease last July.
Volvo Plug-In Car Sales Drop August 2022
As per a recent news story by Inside EVs, it turns out that the overall car sales of Volvo Cars in the US have diminished significantly, bringing it down to more than 8,000 vehicles sold in the last month.
But it appears that the plug-in segment of the renowned carmaker is most affected by its recent decline in sold cars.
Volvo admits that it only sold around 1,380 plug-in vehicles last month. Inside EV highlights in the same report that it is down by a significant 30% from its sales figures in the same months in 2021.
But it is to note that it is somewhat a less bleak decline than the July performance of the giant car maker, which fell by a whopping 58%.
Volvo Car Sales Decline
Overall, the Chinese-owned automaker lost roughly 24% of its sales in the US compared to the number of sold vehicles last year or in 2021.
The massive drop last August is not the first instance Volvo saw a massive decline in its sales. In fact, last July alone, it was reduced by about 41% from its performance compared to 2021.
Meanwhile, the automaker disclosed that it has already sold more than 65,000 vehicles since the beginning of 2022, which dropped by around 24% from its figures from the previous year.
But despite that, according to a report by Clean Technica, Volvo still reported that the plug-in vehicles segment took around a 21.9% slice of the pie in its overall sales last month.
On the other hand, Volvo's all-electric offerings are getting a bigger slice this time, with around 5.7% of its global sales.
It comes as Volvo is aggressively pushing for electrified vehicles moving forward.
No less than the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Volvo Cars, Hakan Samuelsson, believes that "there will be no customers who really want to stay with a petrol engine."
However, its sales performance in recent months has been decreasing due to ongoing supply issues in China. In turn, the giant automaker continues to grapple with its ill effects, wherein it is having a hard time shipping out new vehicles to its customers despite the strong demand.
