Perhaps one of the unforgettable PlayStation games that involve ninjas is Tenchu: Stealth Assassins.
The game was very successful in Japan and in other countries. In 2003, it sold 250,000 units in Japan, while worldwide, it sold a total of over 1.4 million copies.
According to review aggregator Metacritic, the game achieved "generally favorable" reviews. In 2003, the game was Activision's highest-selling title. Meanwhile, it was Acquire's best-selling title until 2018.
The Game's Story
Tenchu: Stealth Assassins is a 1998 stealth video game. It was developed by Acquire for the PlayStation.
In Japan, the debut entry in the Tenchu series was published by Sony Music Entertainment Japan, while in the West, it was published by Activision.
According to Dual Shockers, the game gave the world "a 3D peek into the medieval Land of The Rising Sun" through the game console.
The game follows the story of Rikimaru and Ayame of the Azuma ninja clan. The two ninjas work on missions for their employer Lord Gohda in Sengoku-era Japan.
Rikimaru and Ayame grew up together. These two also trained with each other. In the game, there was this heroic master, Lord Gohda, who employed the two ninjas as spies.
The reason why Rikimaru and Ayame were employed by Lord Gohda is to put an end to corruption in his province. He also wants them to gather information.
In the game, there is a demonic sorcerer, Lord Mei-Oh. He is tagged as the "king of hell." He is after killing Lord Gohda.
Lord Mei-Oh sends his ninja, Onikage, to cause terror. According to Giant Bomb, Onikage and Rikimaru are rivals. While Lord Mei-Oh is the "final boss" of the game, Onikage is considered the main antagonist.
Nearing the last mission, Lord Gohda's daughter, Princess Kiku is kidnapped by Onikage. Rikimaru and Ayame rescued the princess.

Tenchu: Stealth Assassins' Gameplay
As the title suggests, Tenchu: Stealth Assassins is about assassination and stealth.
In the game, you can take on the role of either Rikimaru or Ayame. While the two ninjas are generally similar, they still have some differences.
For once, Rikimaru has more health. However, he is slower and has only one blade. Ayame, on the other hand, is weaker but uses two blades. She also has better movement speed.
Both ninjas are equipped with grappling hooks. This means that Rikimaru and Ayame can both climb up and down rooftops.
In the game, all levels take place at night. According to Giant Bomb, this is possible because of the graphical limitations of the PlayStation.
Rikimaru and Ayame have other tools such as poison rice treats, smoke bombs, sleeping potions, explosives, and throwing stars.
You would find a puzzle element to the game, according to Giant Bomb. The objectives of the game are quite vague.
The game has ten missions. However, if you beat levels without being detected, the game does "replay value in," as per Giant Bomb.
