Gargoyles Joins Disney Classics that Got Remasters

According to IGN, Gargoyles Remastered is a "remaster of the classic platformer." It was developed by Disney Software. In 1995, it was published by Buena Vista Interactive for Sega Genesis.

The video game is an adaptation of the "Gargoyle" animated series.

Now, Empty Clip Studios will be developing the Gargoyles Remastered. The remastered game will be for modern consoles and PC.

Gargoyles Remastered will reportedly have updated visuals and controls, according to Kotaku.

The game was aired in the 90s. It follows the story of a "group of gargoyles in then-modern-day New York City." The gargoyles protect the city from various supernatural villains.

"Gargoyles" TV series was part of the Disney afternoon programming in the 90s. According to IGN, the show can be considered a "cult hit" in the past years.

Currently, "Gargoyles" can be streamed from Disney+. Gargoyles Remastered is joining the likes of Aladdin, The Lion King, and The Jungle Book, the Disney classics that got remasters in the previous years.

Gargoyles Remastered Announced at D23

Gargoyles basically follows the plot of the TV series, where the player controls the protagonist Goliath.

In the game, Goliath tries to put an end to the Eye of Odin, a corrupted magical talisman that can "transform whoever comes to possess it."

The most recent owner of the Eye, Demona, becomes the main antagonist of the game.

There are five levels in the game. It is bookended by short cinematics that explains the story. Each level of the game is concluded with a boss encounter.

Goliath would contend with the Vikings, who ransacked Castle Wyvern throughout the game. He also has to face the new, robotic foes who attack him in the present era in various places.

Goliath has various arsenal of attacks in order to defend himself. His attacks include various strikes with his fists, grapples, throws, and leaping maneuvers.

Moreover, to increase his jumping distance, he is capable of pumping his wings. In addition, he can climb along walls and ceilings with his claws.

Gargoyles was scheduled to be released exclusively for the Sega Genesis on May 15, 1995. However, the game was instead released on November 1995.

The game has a planned Super NES version, which was supposed to be released on Christmas 1995. However, it was canceled.

Chris Shrigley, who programmed the game, released the source code for educational purposes to the public in December 2012.

An announcement trailer for Gargoyle Remastered was released during the Disney D23 2022. The game will be developed by Empty Clip Studios, according to Kotaku.
