Microsoft is Looking Into Outlook Issue That Stops Users From Creating Teams Meetings

Microsoft 365 is a great platform, particularly in an environment. The applications are well integrated into Microsoft 365, making it user-friendly, and this includes both Microsoft Teams and Outlook. These two are well integrated; thus, users can easily "access Microsoft Teams features directly from their Outlook application," as per Business Tech Planet.

However, users have been reporting errors in the said feature as Microsoft Outlook is disabling the Teams Meeting add-in, according to BleepingComputer.

Microsoft is Currently Investigating Issues Affecting Outlook

An ongoing issue is being experienced by Microsoft 365 users where they are experiencing Outlook disabling the Teams Meeting add-in. The error is preventing users from creating Teams meetings.

According to Microsoft Support, the Teams Meeting add-in allows users to schedule a Teams meeting from Outlook. The add-in is available for Outlook on Windows, Mac, web, and mobile.

As per the original BleepingComputer report, Microsoft is already conducting an investigation to identify the cause of this issue that affects Microsoft 365.

As per the original BleepingComputer report, the issue happens when the "Teams Meeting add-in for Outlook becomes disabled." When this happens, the meeting creation option becomes missing from the menu.

Several users experienced situations wherein certain files and add-ins were missing or working properly, as per Business Tech Planet.

Users can try reinstalling Microsoft Teams in order to resolve the issue. If you have tried reinstalling Microsoft Teams and the add-in, but it is still not working on Outlook, what remains to be done is to enable the Teams add-in from there.

It is also possible that after reinstalling Microsoft Teams, the add-in would disable itself in Outlook. When this happens, you have to make it work by enabling it manually.

What's the Workaround Available?

There's a silver lining with the situation as Microsoft offers a workaround for the problem.

The workaround allows the users who are experiencing the issues to "manually turn the add-in back on and add a registry key," according to BleepingComputer.

This should prevent Outlook from auto-disabling the Teams Meeting again.

BleepingComputer and TechnoResult detailed the workaround in their reports.

  • The first step is to go to Outlook.
  • Afterward, go to File, then choose Options.
  • From Options, choose Add-ins, then Manage.
  • Go to "Disabled items," then choose Go.
  • Afterward, look for Teams. Once you find Teams, select it and click Enable.
  • Once you're done enabling it, restart Outlook.

The add-in should be working after you do these steps.

There is a chance that Outlook will block the Teams Meeting add-in again. Thus, to prevent this from happening again, add a new registry key.

Meanwhile, according to TechnoResult, another solution to prevent the error is to reinstall Teams.

  • Simply press Windows + R and type appwiz.cpl.
  • Afterward, try to find Microsoft Teams app, then right-click on it and choose Uninstall.
  • Once you're done with the uninstallation, the next step is to download the latest version of Teams and install it.
