iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 comparison video leaks online

Even as iFans wait eagerly for Apple's Sept. 10 event where it is expected to unveil the new iPhones, leaks pertaining to the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 tablets are gaining momentum.

Apple is not expected to unveil the next-gen versions of its popular iPads at the September event, but leaked parts of the iDevices have surfaced frequently as the countdown to the alleged October launch of the iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 begins.

Now a video which shows off the rear casing of the iPad mini 2 being compared to the iPad mini and the impending iPad 5 has surfaced online courtesy of Unbox Therapy. The video reveals that the upcoming iPad mini 2 will be similar to the current-gen iPad mini.

"A new video comparing the purported shell of the second-generation iPad mini to the existing iPad mini and the upcoming fifth-generation iPad has surfaced on YouTube. Shared by Unbox Therapy, the shell, which has been previously seen in photos, has a form factor that is nearly identical to the existing iPad mini," reports MacRumors.

The video also reveals that the only discernible difference between the iPad mini and iPad mini 2 back plates is the Apple logo. The iPad mini 2 has a mirrored silver logo, whereas the current-gen iPad mini has a black Apple logo. Interestingly, the mirrored finish is similar to the ones seen on prototype iPad 5 shells.

The video also compares the iPad mini 2's aluminum back shell next to the iPad 5 shell, which gives us a glimpse into the design sensibilities the larger sibling has adopted from the smaller tablet. Both the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 seem to have the same thickness. The iPad mini 2 appears to be 20cm in height, whereas the iPad 5 casing measure 24cm.

The iPad mini 2 is not expected to sport any major design changes, but is speculated to include a Retina display. On the other hand, the iPad 5 is conjectured to have narrower bezels, a rounded shell and a more compact design compared to the iPad 4.

With the tablets expected to launch in time for the holiday season, we'll have to wait for Apple to reveal more details.

In the meantime, check out the video of the iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 being compared below.
