iPhone 15 Pro Max Might Become the iPhone 15 Ultra Instead

The Apple company can be predictable especially when it comes to the names of their next product release. They follow a certain pattern depending on the model they have already launched, but this time, the next generation of iPhones could be called 'Ultra' instead of 'Plus,' 'S,' 'Pro,' or 'Pro Max.'

According to an Engadget article, this could be Apple's most significant redesign since the iPhone 12 in 2019. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman mentioned in the same article that Apple might not hold an event this fall and instead share the products' launch through a series of press releases instead.

What Can We Expect from iPhone 15 Ultra?

Apple might subject the new release to significant changes, but given that the iPhone 15 is still a year away, there isn't much to know about it just yet. Although, Apple is expected to shift to USB-C for future product releases.

Gurman reported that Apple was testing USB-C iPhones ahead of the European Union, which has decided to make all phones and electronic devices use the USB-C port. They aim to lessen the e-waste brought upon by consumers buying a different type of charger when new devices require it.

As mentioned by European Parliament News, by Autumn 2024, the common charging port for mobile phones, tablets, and cameras in Europe will become the USB-Type C. This will give consumers a choice to either retain their old charger or buy a new one since it's one and the same.

Should I Buy the New iPhone 15 Ultra Upon Release?

That depends on you. Update-wise, if the rumor mills are true and the iPhone 15 Ultra really is way ahead of its predecessor, then it could be a good idea to acquire it.

Gurman stated in Bloomberg that iPhone 13 Pro did not cost him anything when upgrading from the iPhone 12 Pro, yet trading in from iPhone 13 Pro to iPhone 14 Pro Max cost him $720.

With that example in mind, you should look into the upgrade once Apple releases more details about their newest addition to the long line of iPhones. This could help you decide whether it is worth upgrading or if you should keep your current model for a little while more.

Apple's user interface usually depends on the version of your iOS, and the newest versions of the iOS don't support older models. If you're still sporting an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, you might want to treat yourself to an update seeing as the iOS 16 is no longer supported in that model.

This can cause the user problems, especially since several or most applications can be reliant on the operating system your phone usually has. With Apple's fast-paced trajectory towards new and improved phones, older models can quickly become obsolete.
