Uber called on all non-remote employees to be in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting on November 1.
Uber Technologies Inc. employees will have to show up on the worksite twice a week in an attempt to adapt hybrid working models in their companies worldwide, Reuters says.
Employees Are Leaving The Luxury Of Purely Working From Home
CNet reports that employees of Uber, the popular rideshare and delivery service provider, said in a statement that they are expecting employees to return to the office next month.
Chief Officer Nikki Krishnamurthy informed Uber's employees that the company would be adopting a hybrid model of work in-office, which is a mix of work-from-home and working at the office.
Additionally, employees will be allowed the freedom to work anywhere they want to for up to four weeks, with special consideration for those who need to fully remain working from home.
As per the CNet report, corporates from Uber are hoping that this move will "help maximize the benefits of in-person collaboration," saying that employee feedback urged them to take this step.
Employee feedback indicated that when in the office, people tend to engage more in work and with others, have a stronger sense of belongingness, and are more likely to report a higher satisfaction rating at work, CNet says.

It Will Remain Flexible For Employees
Uber is calling back its employees to work on the site, but not for a five-day work week, and only on anchor days Tuesdays and Thursdays.
According to the San Francisco Examiner, Uber's chief people officer Krishnamurthy notes that remote work is beneficial to employees as it teaches them how to balance flexibility, productivity, and collaboration.
Tech giants in the business have already taken this step prior, opting for a more flexible policy for employees, even early on during the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. News writes.
Twitter Inc., Meta Platforms Inc., Microsoft Corp, and Lyft are among the companies that give their employees flexible working policies, allowing workers to have a choice in the place they want to work in.

Anchor day for Uber will begin on November 1, where changes are expected to mitigate challenges that may include showing up to work in the office and coordinating schedules with coworkers.
Uber emphasized that not only will adopting a hybrid working model be beneficial to already existing employees, but it will also be beneficial to those employees they can hire outside of their office hub locations.
"It's important we stay connected to the places we serve with work practices that help us benefit from flexibility while facilitating and maximizing, '' Krishnamurthy added to the statement, according to the San Francisco Examiner.
The ride-hailing service is looking to implement this adaptable hybrid work model globally, following its move to let staff work anywhere half the time since July.
