Adriana Chechik Gets a Surgery Because of Back Injury

The foam pit is part of the TwitchCon festivities, which started on Friday. After going on battle on some elevated platforms, the streamers jump into the foam pit.

Chechik is the latest victim of foam pit accident as she suffered back injury after jumping into the foam pit.

In the video footage of the incident that surfaced on social media, gaming streamer EdyBot and Chechik can be seen landing in the foam pit after they had a "Face Off."

Chechik jumps up and down and does an air split to celebrate her win in the face-off. She appears to land on her tailbone in the foam pit.

After landing on the pit full of foam blocks, she seems to be okay and smiling but later on she appears to be in pain, complaining that she can't get up.

An off-camera question was heard, asking if she is okay, to which Chechik responded no by shaking her head.

On the next day, Sunday, she posted a tweet saying that she broke her back in two places, and will be getting a surgery to put a meter rod.

Several Streamers Come Forward to Say That the Foam Pit is Unsafe

Following Chechik injury, several streamers have decided to come forward to say that the foam pit is unsafe, as per The Gamer.

EdyBot tweeted calling out for others who suffered injury from the foam pit to come forward: "I'm the other girl in the video and a friend of Adriana. She would love to hear from other people who were injured in the same pit."

Likewise, Edybot also said that she felt a jolt in her back and had pain for the rest of the night after jumping into the foam pit.

Computer maker Lenovo organized the foam pit as part of its "Legion by Lenovo" booth at TwitchCon. According to a tweet by Nathan Grayson, the booth was a collaboration between Intel and Lenovo. The booth was closed after Chechik incident.

In a statement, Lenovo said: "We are aware of the incidents of TwitchCon visitors who sustained injuries in the gladiator game soft foam pit at the Lenovo booth. The area has since been closed for any further use while we work with event organizers to look into the incidents."

According to TwitchCon attendees, the shallowness of the pit is the possible cause of the injuries. EdyBot said that the pit is "like three cubes deep" only. Meanwhile, Grayson says "the pit itself goes up a little past my knee" and that it's shallow.

According to Kotaku, a foam pit is supposed to swallow the person jumping in it, but the video shows that after landing, Chechik just bounced back quite hard.
