Updated Steam Mobile App is Now Available on iOS, Android

Steam has improved its mobile app and is now available for Android and iOS. Valve released a limited beta version of the app back in August, which was the first in seven years. It has been built on a new framework and has adopted a more modern design.

The recent update, however, comes with new features that will make it easier for players to sign in on Steam without the need to enter their Steam Guard Code.

What's New With Steam?

With the new design and framework, users can now view their improved game library. It can be seen in a grid format which shows the covers of the game titles. This will allow players to update their games via the Steam app without having to go to their computers to do so.

The update also includes a feature wherein players can now remotely purchase games on their phones, as opposed to their PCs. The app includes news items and community as well, according to The Verge.

Users can now log in to their PC using a QR code. It is a faster way of logging in compared to having to enter your username, password, and Steam Guard code, like using fingerprints to log in to other apps or devices.

The Steam app will display a confirmation page that will show the location of your device via geotagging. This serves as a safeguard to ensure that the device is the user's and not a hacker's.

Users can choose to approve or deny the prompt when the app requests for the use of the camera to sign in, but if the user denies it, they will be required to enter their username and password. Although, this particular method will no longer require the Steam Guard code.

This may look like a security risk for some, but Steam has added extra measures to make sure that user data will remain private and away from the hands of hackers.

Speaking of security risks, users may view the list of authorized devices through the app. This allows them to view which devices were used for logging in and at what time. If an unauthorized login was spotted, users can revoke access through the app. It is a convenience for when users forget to log their Steam accounts out from other devices.
